First off, I probably brought this on myself for buying a license for NSS4 without trying the game (I loved NSS3 though and I'd been meaning to buy 4 for a while)... Oops, should have known better, cause now I'm having trouble with it:
1. Resolutions: I can't select anything higher than 1440x900. I have a 16:10 monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1200, which I'd like to use to play the game. Unfortunately the config launcher won't let me pick it and there's no ini file that appears to control these settings.
2. I can't actually play the game. (Maybe this should have been listed at #1). I start it, the game launches to the main menu (which looks awesome by the way, great job Si!), runs normally for 10-15 seconds, and then (whether I leave it alone or try to create an account) framerate drops to around 2 FPS for a few seconds, the boxes (containing the menu interface) get black out then disappear, then I get black-screen (through which the sound continues) and then total CTD. Playing in a window appears to be a temporary fix, but for some reason my window takes up only about 3/4 of the screen or so.
I'm playing the latest version of the game (just bought and DLed tonight), and have up-to-date drivers for all of my hardware (cleanly-installed drivers, I might add, I reformatted last week so all of the drivers are current).
Specs:
Windows XP Pro SP3
Dual-Core 2.5 Ghz Intel Core 2 processor
4 GB of DDR2 @772MHz
2x512MB NVIDIA Geforce 8800M GTX in SLI (SLI disabled for compatibility with this game) running XP 185.85 drivers (the latest mobile ones)
High-speed hard drive
I can usually fix most of the problems I have with games, but this one seems baffling to me. Any ideas?
EDIT: Okay, I've done some more fiddling. It's definitely a resolution-related problem in fullscreen that isn't limited to the main menu: if I make the game fullscreen, I get the same problem regardless of whether I'm in the main menu or not. I can play in fullscreen, but only, it seems, at resolutions at or below 1024x768.
Not sure what could be causing this...
