Champions League Expansion?

There are currently 43 leagues in NSS3. Now, I'm not at home so I can't check, but most of those are European.

Yet there are only 32 spaces available in the Champions League, and so most of the minor leagues (Ireland, Iceland etc.) don't have their teams entering the competition.

Would it be possible to have the CL expanded to 64 teams - a two legged, seeded playoff qualifying round where the best 32 sides play off against the worst, to determine the 32 sides who'll play in the tournament proper? It would mean every European league could have at least one spot.

My personal opinion is No, let's wait until we can include qualfiers and have the real structure represented as accurately as possible. Of course, the game would then have to be able to allocate spaces each season based on country/team performance the last season, which I think is how it works now?

yeah, cool... when there are finnish teams in the game, the teams will be able to play in UCL if they can make it through qualfiers

That's how it works in real life, aye. It's fairly complex though as you need country and team coefficients in order to do it properly.

Well I think Si's gonna add the UEFA cup here soon so that should put some of the fun into those other leagues...

But yes, qualifiers would be sweet.

Keep in mind you can also edit the files so that you can add a champions league place to one of the teams in your league that you would like to play as.

You know what, I agree with Fry Crayola. I think that the CL should be expanded to 64 teams temporarily. John, I can understand your opinion on it because it is a band-aid solution, but it would sure be better than what is in place now.

This maybe should go into another thread, but might as well put this here for now. Si, would it be possible to skip saving after you make any change in the editor (to CL spots)? It's a real time hog.

JJU or Nick will do, me name ain't John As Statto says, if you want a team from your country to play, you can always use the editor to allocate ECL places. It's more a matter of 'the league I like to play in hasn't got a team in the ECL', than being a design fault as such, so while yes, it's something that could do with improving, I don't personally believe expanding to 64 to be a better option.

I agree with JJU we should wait until Si is able to code the UEFA co-efficients into the game and make it more realistic. Champ Mgr and nowadays Foot Mgr were dead good at this type of thing and keeping it current. Si - thats no reflection on your work, they probably had 20 coders working on the project not to mention +20 design team.
