Right, it's time I nailed the network connection issues that a handful of people are suffering from when playing NSS5. It's baffling the heck out of me but together we will solve it.
If you have never been able to connect online, or if you could connect in an earlier version but now cannot, or if you are unable to start a career because it says there is a new version even though you have the latest version, then please let me know the following...
- What modem/router hardware you are using and also the firmware version if you are able to find it. (Normally you go to an address like http://192.168.1.1 to access your router information.)
- For PC owners, if you go to C:\Programs Files\New Star Soccer 5\Settings\Settings.txt or C:\Programs Files(x86)\New Star Soccer 5\Settings\Settings.txt for 64-bit machines.
- For Mac owners, control click the NSS5 icon and click show package contents, then browse to Contents\Resources\Data\Settings\Settings.txt.
- Change the line debug=0 to debug=1 and save the file. (Windows owners might need to save it to the desktop, close the file, then copy and paste it from the desktop and back into the game folder because of User Account Control (UAC).)
- PC owners, from the game folder right-click NSS5.exe and select Run As Administrator.
- Mac owners, run the game.
- After getting to the main menu and attempting to start a career, quit out of the game. Go back to the game folder and look for log.txt. Please attach it to this thread.
Unfortunately I can't tell you what hardware is being used to connect as I am on a University connection where I have no control or access to anything! All I can tell you is that we are required to connect through a proxy, which I expect is what will be causing this problem.
I have managed to find a temporary solution, I won't reveal it on here because it isn't something that I would recommend others try, but I will keep trying to get it working normally.
I already sent email to support@newstargames.com about it.
I have problems with red OFFLINE button top left ( http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/3...1917195054.jpg ) , when I click it, it submit stats, and retrieve leaderboards allright, but still shows as offline again.. it already said that I can't play because I wasn't online for last 50 matches or something.
I tried disabling firewall, but it doesn't help. What ports is NSS5 using? Maybe I should try to forward them in router... I don't think it will help, but I can atleast try.
Ah, as you suggest in your email - it might be the apostrophes in your player name. I will look at the server code to see if I can fix it but if you want to change your name you can do so from your account page: http://www.newstarsoccer.com/login.php Be warned though that you will need to start a new career if you change your player name as the old save file won't work.
My game has shown the message that I had played 50 matches and I needed to connect to the server before playing again. However, the game has still allowed me to continue playing.
The game starts normally, doesn't give any problems with update and appears to be latest version.
It worked normally from work (couldn't wait to get home :p) and I created a player and played a few matches.
At home, when I try to create a new career, it tells me that it can't connect to the servers.
The curious thing is that the very first attempt to connect does work, and gives me a password prompt (since the player name exists in the database), but giving the password results in the cannot connect to server error.
Subsequent attempts to create a career fail with the same message without reaching the password prompt stage.
Reinstalling the game results in the same scenario - first attempt gives password prompt, then failure all the way.
I've attached logs for the first run (where the player name check passes and we get to the password prompt) as well as the second run.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I have a different PC at home. Running Windows 7 64-bit.
When I restored an old save from v1.05 on V1.07, the game synchronizes perfectly with the leaderboard.
Something is going on when saving games on V1.07.
i bought premium version of this game but i cannot connect because of this network issues.
i'm using proxy.surfnet.iacbox isp in my country and this is the log file that you want me to send please help me about it thanks =)
