Unless the ban is just a retrospective red card, I don't quite see the justification of banning Henry because of the world wide media outcry. I mean, isn't deliberate handball only a red card offence? Or perhaps that is only if you deny a goalscoring opportunity.

Anyway, if he gets more punishment than he would have if ref had seen it, then I see no fairness to Henry. Nor can I see banning him for a game or so doing much to settle everyone calling for replays and the world cup to be expanded.

What I don't understand is why they have decided not to use goal mouth referees at the World Cup, because they want to have a comprehensive review afterwards about new technologies. Surely a temporary measure just for the World Cup would be better than doing nothing, and having a whole tournament with the goal mouth referees would surely help decide on their effectiveness.

rofl @ hand of frog then. Also goal mouth refs suck from what I've seen of them in the EL. (And I have seen 5 games with them, Benfica's on the EL ) They barely move, how are you supposed to be a ref if you're just standing still?

OK I am going to bite. Why do you have to be moving to be a referee? Umpires in tennis and their line judges don't tend to move about, and I doubt that it would do them any good if they did.

When something's going on on the other side of the goal, you need to move otherwise it's pointless to be a ref.
