So, this is it, the countdown to release! First of all I have a confession to make, when I set out to do this mod I had no idea it would be so time-consuming and so damn difficult; had I known, I probably wouldn't have started. However, now I'm looking at the finished product I'm glad I did, I'm jolly proud of what I've managed to do with this, and I'm sure you guys will have as much fun playing it as I will.

First of all a few thanks; appologies if I missed anyone here, believe me your contributions have not been forgotten, but if I were to thank each of you individually It would take a good week or so!
First of all, Si Read; if this comparitively little project has reduced me to ridiculous states of frustration then it's a sign of how much effort is needed to program an entire game! Bazik, for helping me develop my pixel-art skills and providing me with some excelent resources. Paranhos for extensive help on tracks, bugs and the installer!

Don't despair, this isn't the last of the NSGP related releases, there will be more tracks, more teams and season updates.

So i'll see you for those, happy driving!

Rob.

ah yes, the installation wizard; it all went a bit wrong, so for this issue, I havn't included it, you just install it manually as set out in the readme.txt file:

OR AS IN EARLY ISSUES IF THE INSTALLER IS NOT PRESENT.

hmm, that's quite a good idea, you mean as in main menu backgrounds? I'm not very good with photoshop stuff though...

And yes, the DOB's are messed up, most of the drivers don't have them as thet were not submitted, so it defaults to something. Stig doesn't have one, because were still are'nt sure if he was born at all! :P

btw... the pictures of the tracks are not working, the only reason i think its the wrong dpi... its 72 on the original, its 71 on yours :S but it shouldn't matter, i'' look into that

There you go:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZJPBQ7OS

This is a beta version, I don't recommend anybody but robbyd to download it.

There are 6 files:
NSGP F1 - Fan-tasy Mod - 1 - Vista.exe
NSGP F1 - Fan-tasy Mod - 1 - XP.exe
NSGP F1 - Fan-tasy Mod - 2.exe
Among with the executable file's Smart Install Maker project, so you can edit them. I used version 5.02.

I created 2 executables since the files need to go to two places: My Documents\New Star Grand Prix and Program Files\New Star GP, I haven't found a way to make the setup install in two different places. And Vista and XP, since in XP it should usually go to C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\New Star Grand Prix, and in Vista it usually needs to go to C:\Users\Username\My Documents\New Star Grand Prix.

I double checked each installer, and everything seems to be in order.

It includes the end-user agreement, the last paragraph in the readme file. And in the Interface section, you can add artwork, change the icon, etc.

One problem though:

-The program doesn't have a "directory" which locates My Documents. It various languages, it could be ''Meus Documentos'' or many other, with the different languages in the world, making the setup to install in the wrong place. At least there are what I need with Program Files and Username, %ProgramFiles% and %UserName% respectively, which tell the installer the exact place to install, even though the Program Files folder is called "Arquivos e Programas" and whatever your username is.

It includes the end-user agreement, the last paragraph in the readme file. And in the Interface section, you can add artwork, change the icon, etc.

EDIT: Found the way to locate My Documents. Will be re-uploading shortly.

thanks buddy, your an absolute legend! V 1.1 will be the real step forward!

Re-uploaded.

One thing you need to know, if are going to add artwork:

The contents of the 1st installer are the My Documents ones, the mod itself and the tracks. And the second one, the tiles, in the Program Files.

If you are going to re-build the setup file, you are going to need to re-select the files, since your computer won't locate the files.

That is the ''complicated stuff" you said you had tecnical problems with, so I think you might run into some trouble.

If so, please, either create the program project file (.smm) and send it to me to re-build it, or please create the artwork and send them to me. And if you'd like to change anything don't hesitate in telling me.:D

And hey, do have Windows Vista? If so, check out the Vista setup file, and tell me if they are running smoothly, going where they have to be. If yes, there might be no need for two different files. And I'm also thinking in a complicated way to make it only one file!

EDIT:Nevermind, creating only one setup file is IMPOSSIBLE.

Ahhh i found a BIG flaw... that will make rob re upload all this again in name of the fairness....

the reason why Paranhos is so good... is because their drivers are world champions, Siread said in a post somewhere that he tweak for v1.1 the stats for World Champions... so in order to be fair, no one must be world champion, or ever better... everyone must be world championship, so that once the 1st season is over one drivers distances himself from the pack.
(also this is a fantasy mod... so what's the problem of incorrect worldchampion status? everybody has incorrect dobs... so dont be picky :P)

yes it is quite a bit off, but believe me; I spend nearly a week trying to get a track that not only looked like the TGTT, but had the FEEL of the TGTT, every corner is pronounced, and every corner that should be challenging, is challenging.

It's an NSGP adaption, of course it won't be simulation style accurate, but it's the best that is possible with the materials I have to work with.

I'll be lobbying Si for flexi-track placement for NSGP2, until then, we have to make do.

I'm quite happy with the way the drivers perform, I'm also quite happy with the standard of racing; I don't think it's really a problem that one team is better than the other, if anything I think it adds to the realism of the mod as a legitimate series; one with consitent teams, and others who's performance varies from race to race. Such differences in teams are only evident for the first year of season mode anyway.

No-one set out to make their team any better than another, that's not the spirit of this community. Had it been the case that this facet had been intentionally exploited by members, then I probably would have changed it, however, they did not, and I see no reason to restrict.

I put a great deal of thought into the driver stats, and came to the conclusion that I personally would prefer to see a series where one knows what to expect from a certain car / driver than one where performances are much less tangible. Besides, the state of the championship tables would be a horrible mess, and where is the fun in beating a faceless, characterless drone, when the sense of acheivement in beating a Paranhos GP car is so much greater?

I will be leaving this feature of the mod as it is, but of course, others are welcome to change it if they would rather see their own team on top.

Ps: Birthdates will be included in V1.1

Thanks again for your help with this mate, but I can't seem to work it at all! A bit thick perhaps for this kind of stuff.

I really want to personalise the look of the installer (which works beautifully by the way) but I don't have the means to do it, and I'd quite like to change the "end license agreement" to this:

public for no charge. All mod material is the intelectual property of RobbyD and various,

Changing the looks of it is easy, all you gotta do is create a 164x314 image, to change the logo at the left in the first and last screens, and a 55x55 image to change the icon at the top left in all other screens. Then send them to me, and I'll put them in the installer.

I've attached the default images, so you can know what the images are like:

EDIT:And I've figured out how to several new languages in the installer, many languages: Arabic, Portuguese, Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, English, Estonian, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish and Ukranian. Also fixed many stuff. Added readme option and a visit the New Star Forums option at the end of the second installer.

Well, but the ideia of making everycar 12 stars was that it would be balanced....

anyway.. in that case, i want to change my drivers
driver a) = Keke Roseberg and b) = Jochen Rindt

This way not only you will feel the pressure to beet paranhos and all the other drivers who are WC, like villeneuve etc... but also my team.
And this way when i start a new carrer with my 0 WC, i will have a high standard to beat with my team mate with a WC

Sorry Bazik, I'm not prepared to do that, to me it seems a little bit selfish. Why anyone should be so bothered that a fantasy team, in a fantasy mod on a video game is not performing as well as others is beyond me, it just seems very petty and out of keeping with the friendly spirit which this mod was intended in.

Like I said, you may change your drivers in your database, but in the public release I'm not prepared to start making changes, you had all this time to make a decision, and you made it.

I know you won't like my decision, but there it is. I know your probably going to throw a wobbler, but that's fine by me; as far as i'm concerned the mod as it is now is better than a mod filled with real-world super-drivers, and you changing your drivers is setting us off on a slippery slope to everyone doing the same. If it were your team doing so well in the mod, I doubt you would have kicked up such a fuss, or even mentioned it at all; the mod is still very close in terms of racing, and the two Paranhos cars are far from invincible, in fact they share the spoils amongst several cars. I'll post my season podiums so far, and let you see for yourself:

(Note: I'm playing as Jimmy Clark on hard difficulty)

AUS: Graham Hill, Sherwin Thaver, The Stig
MAL: Ayrton Senna, Jimmy Clark, Nelson Piquet

Look man, dont change it, its your mod...

the thing is, what was the idea limiting all people to 12 stars? wasn't it, since this is a mod made with a lil bit of everyone, everyone should have equal chance of winning? i thought that was the spirit of the mod, it was a good spirit, i loved the idea, since apart from siread we are all equal in this forum.
But then has it happens, not everybody has equal winning change, which for me is a drag, and no i'm not being selfish, i first suggest everyone should have equal chance, before i wanted to change my drivers. And contrary to what you suggested, if i was the only team winning and i figured it out that it was cause i picked WC drivers, i would still be the 1st here pointing out how unfair that was.

And i do think its unfair, i think everyone should have equal change of winning and i stand by that, if you disagree, and you want to be the max mosley of the NSGP F1 Mod, be my guest...

King Rob

The Max Mosley comment seems a little bit harsh to be honest :-(
It is a little bit difficult for me to comment without yet playing but going from Rob's results having JV in my team hasn't really helped. I think i'm going to enjoy being at the back of the pack, there is some motivation to be found there maybe. However lets not lose the spirit in which this mod came together over minor details and such :~)

No i dont want to paint you as anything... if anything i hold you in high considertation, and i look up to you from all your hard work, dont ever thing otherwise. Maybe your opinion of me was shaped from a previous unrelated disagreement, i can be quite stubborn and voicy of my opinions, i know

The last thing i wanted was this :S, i was just expressing that i felt the spirit of the mod was equality, that's all. So please lets just dont let this get in the way of the wonderful work you've done and i'll be more careful with what comes out of my mouth. But dont ever think i dont like you or have anything against you, that's completely untrue.

ok, my appologies; this was just the straw that broke the camel's back, it's not that what you said was a terrible thing, it was just the one thing that made me snap, so with my temper cooled and my composure regained, I appologise, guilt tripping people is not something I want to do, and of course I value people's input, it's just that doing all the testing I did (including a test of the "all-equal" stats) I found the current configuration produces the most enjoyable game. I am still willing to continue tweaking and developing, but as I will say, this is a matter for all, not just the few.

If we consult the entire community, then we will take action, until that point I'm not going to rush into changes that may be akin to removing the key-stone from the bridge of sighs, all the ornate architecture around it comes crumbling down.

yup, the Nurburgring is one tough cookie, even I (having designed the bloody thing) have difficulty hitting each apex and protecting my place, whilst at the same time trying to attack those in front. It seems that i've not had chance to open up the Lotus' acceleration before i'm braking again for another corner.

Still, it's my firm favourite track, it's just so much fun to drive, especially on practice, you can really fling the car around, constantly on the edge of crashing into a tree/bush/haybail/barrier and never in "auto-pilot mode" which i can do with some tracks.

I've been trying to get a lap in under 1:00! I've managed 1:02, but I can't seem to crack the one minute mark! First person to do so has my firm congratulations!

Top Tip: Turn off the Speedometer and map for a better view of the ring!

i think there is a problem with the donington racing line.

i'm playing the mod in extreme, and 75% of the cars go off at the top bend, making my life easier...

here is one example:
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/3512/airpin.th.png (http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/3512/airpin.png)

I ended up winning this race, and in all honesty i would NEVER win it if the Paranhos car's didnt go off track almost everylap there, i was miles off their pace.

GAH! Are they still doing that?! Jesus, I thought I'd fixed it...hmm, probably needs an even more conservative racing line then, i'll fix for the next update.

There is other thing tremendously weird and i'm not sure if its the mod's fault:

The points for every race are differnet:

Week 1: 10 6 5 4 3 2 1 0
Week 2: 8 6 5 4 3 2 1 0
Week 3: 10 8 6 5 4 2 1 0
Week 4: 10 8 6 4 3 2 1 0
Week 5: 10 8 6 5 3 1 0 0

Shoule be:
10 8 6 5 4 3 2 1

Also, i must add, and please this is just my input and personal opinion. I think its too much unbalanced even after only 5 races.
Paranhos GP and Davies Lotus are the only team featuring 2 World Champions in their ranks, and Rated R, has 1.

Team Standings after 5 weeks:
Paranhos GP: 58 points
Davies Lotus: 52 points
Rated R Racing: 33 points
(Bazik F1: 18 points, doesn't really count since one of the drivers, me, is not an AI driver, and i won 10 points easily with that donington AI mess in that tight bend)
other teams: 10 points, 8 points, 7 points, 6 points, 3 points, 0 points.

Hey, rob, the setup files are all ready, I'm just waiting for your images to input them into the installer.

And I've also noticed something in some of your tracks. In the NSGP track editor's help section, it says the checkpoints must span from the outside wall to the inside wall, and most of your tracks don't follow that instruction. I don't know if that makes any difference at all in the tracks, but I've redone the checkpoints in some of your tracks, anyway.

0:59:965, driving Red Star... :) And I made a mistake, so I reckon that sub-59 is possible.

Great track, I love the new tracks.

Congrats! It must be the poor handling on the Davies Lotus that is letting me down...might try with another car!

@Paranhos, i'll add the setup files with the new release; it's taking a bit longer due to other commitments (including two new Mods) but It will be released within days rather than weeks. Thanks for the editing of the checkpoints! I'll unpack the setup and work on the changes from there.

@Basik, I'm not having that problem, i'll check the Db, but I can't see it being that.

CONFIRMED FIXES/ADDONS FOR NSGP F1 v2

Got it down to 0:59:466, still think sub-59 is gettable. Had a bug in the race though where I cut slightly the horizontally facing hairpin about 2/3 through the track, and missed the Check Point there. Might need to look at the CP locations just in case...

Got a problem with the mod - playing in career mode, my NSGP is crashing on the SanMarino race, 1st lap just after the 2nd last turn. Crashes (freezes) consistently at this point, was fine in qualifying and free practice.

Any ideas? Any others having the same experience?

**edit** seemed to fix itself, until the last round, where it now freezes at 16-17 secs into the race. Done this about 10 times now.

**editv2** figured out a workaround - running the game as normal for a track/race then going back to the mod fixes it. Some buffer that isn't cleared in the mod perhaps? Hope this helps.

Here are the most up-to-date setups:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=B7PMQ4XI

Everything's in there, with the exception of artwork. Ready for anyone to use.

Make sure you execute both installers, and also check if they are headed into the directories below:

1st installer - "My Documents\New Star Star Grand Prix\"
2nd installer - "Program Files\New Star GP\" or anywhere else you have NSGP installed.

ah, you beat me to it ;)

Sorry everyone about my absence over the last few weeks, i've had a lot on my plate and just haven't had time to do anything with the NSGP mod; any time i've had to use on the game has gone into my 1967 mod, which is coming along nicely, if slowly through the beta testing and circuit design.

But don't worry, when NSGP 2 does arrive, it will be worth the (very) long wait. They will be plenty more tracks, new unlockables, new backgrounds, new stat engines, and generally more fun. The Nurburgring is enjoying some considerable upgrades, including bring the year up to 1967 to include the final chicane, and carousel track pieces.

There will also be a few extra treats that i'm not quite ready to give away, as regard to team back stories; that i'm sure all of you will appreicate.

Again, terribly sorry for the dely, and thanks for Paranhos for keeping you all updated, something i've sorely neglected.

Rob.

Hey guys, since Si has included all the custom objects in version 1.14, there's no need to re-download the objects if you already have them.

If you don't have 1.14 or further installed, download the NSGP Mod here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=B7PMQ4XI).

If you do have the newest NSGP version, download the NSGP Mod here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TML7OIDV).

If you're confused which one to install, download the first one since it'll have all the files you need.

Happy indie racing! :)

URGENT:

i tested the track of the nurburing just today, and seem to be a big bug...

i often find myself out of place.. being 15.. in between the 4, and 5... seems i missed a chackpoint... but i didnt go off track anytime.

PS:
its really not clear unless you know how mods work, where to install installer1 and installer2 if for instance, like me you changed the default directories.
There should be a dialog when you have to choose the folder that says, please select the nsgp documents folder and nsgp install folder respectively

Paranhos

To do so would be a bit difficult. Anyway, the default folder is where the files should go, unless someone install NSGP somewhere else. If they do so, it's because they know where they want to install, and then the person will know where to direct installer 2. Installer 1 will always go to My Documents, always, unless on Macs. If there's any problems with the installer, the manual installation is still available.

you'll have missed the checkpoint at carousel. It's fixed for the next version.

I'm setting myself a target of getting the mod out by Tuesday, fingers crossed.

Okay so I was about to post my current standings and share a quick story about Monaco when I noticed something weird...........I clicked on the tracks and leaderboard menu so I could recap my positions and such when to my shock and horror:blimey: I had disappeared from the race results :( Also gone was my teamate Jacques(or Jaques as it is in the mod :p) Villeneuve.

See the attched photo: http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/1613/nsgpmod.th.png (http://img24.imageshack.us/i/nsgpmod.png/)

It shows the result for Monaco which should read:

1. Myself
2. Villeneuve
3. Senna (He was second until I brake tested him at the last corner to help JV pass him )

Strange, but not a problem with the mod i'd wager; probably one of those small bugs that occasionaly crop up with the game, and are v.difficult to trace.

Share the story anyway :)
