View Full Version : First Mod Attempt: F1(ish) 1967.

I started on this mod at about lunchtime today. I was bored and fancied re-creating some of the old 1960s type F1 cars. For some reason the first year that I thought of when I thought "1960s" was 1967.

What this mod does is replace the standard NSGP cars, teams and drivers with those found in 1967. I did make a few alterations, for example some teams had only one driver. I made up the numbers by randomly picking a driver from the 1968 season :p Tracks, sadly, haven't been replaced yet as the NSGP Track Editor takes a little getting used to.

The F1.com website's stats about 1967 were incredibly confusing and inconsistent, hence Brabham appearing twice. I'm not sure if Brabham-Climax & Brabham-Repco were actually different teams or if they just switched engine supplier or something. Oh, the drivers all have the wrong birthdates due to me not understanding NSGP's strange birthdate format. I'll probably fix that in another release. Driver/Team stats are also all wrong. I began altering them with the help of Wikipedia but gave up when it started asking for number of race laps completed.

Anyway, here are some screenshots, demonstrating my less than stellar drawing abilities. The team logos are generally from Wikipedia or various other internet sites so I do, obviously, take no credit at all for drawing them.

Great stuff, if you're interested I'd be happy to collaborate on this mod, i'm really getting into car sprite making, and would be glad to lend a hand in that department.

Although I like the season you've chosen, (67 was the last year before wings came in, making the cars VERY difficult to drive, and extremely dangerous) I'm more of a fan of the '65 season, mainly because of the incredible, groudbreaking Lotus 25.

We could also play around with the handling, the handling of the 67 cars were akin to driving on ice, very twitchy and you went everywhere sideways.
Sooo, I think you need to take a look at the drift settings to replicate this, BUT this is a very delicate stat so I'd recomend an air of caution.

Okay, I updated things a bit today:

-Removed Brabham-Climax team, since I think they were the same team as Brabham-Repco & removed the engine manufacturer from team names, so things make a bit more sense.

-Gave all drivers the correct dates of birth and fixed a couple of spelling errors with their names. Reset driver & team stats to 0, which is at least fairer than random 2009 stats :p

-Updated the car sprites. Shading is now a bit better and the tyres in particular look nicer now. Fixed the colours of some cars and edited the design of a couple too.

Robbyd: That'd be great! Feel free to do absolutely anything you want to the car sprites/database/anything. I tried adding to the drift value a bit but it hurt the AI more than it did me- they were sliding onto the grass/into walls on some corners at 0.980, which helped matra's first victory!
