from the 1.05beta thread:

i might just change my mind about KERS, i said the KERS available time was too much, but i suggest you all: run some tests!

i timed the KERS time, and i think the current time is about 5s per lap.

then i took a "Walliams" on Australia, and i made some tests

With KERS, best time, on very low fuel = 0:29:950 (used all the KERS available in the lap)
Without KERS, best time, on very low fuel = 0:29:124

all best times were made in DRY weather

i'm sure the PROS/CONS of using KERS, vary from track to track, car to car, even player to player, so i think to fine tune this thing, everybody should run tests, on diferent Tracks and Cars, i think Siread could fine tune from our data.

So at least with that car, in australia, and for ME, i got better times without, but you run your test, and tells us.

I think it also depends on the car - in my experience, I do better without KERS on worse cars that have a slow top speed to begin with.

I'm still struggling to work out the best usage of KERS for laptimes. Part of the problem is that it tends to mess with your acceleration/deceleration in turns, and from a concentration perspective I'm finding that with KERS I make more driver errors by overshooting or missing the apex of turns. I'm sure that's just a practise thing though.

What might be nice is to include whether a laptime includes KERS as well as the car specs on the online leaderboard. That should help to see if people are using KERS to get better laptimes.

Does KERS cause the car to consume more fuel??? any feedback. thanks guys

If KERS is not fitted you will have a general higher top speed than if KERS is fitted (due to the extra weight).

More fuel will be consumed whilst using the boost because you can get a higher top speed but I'm not sure how this pans out during the entire lap compared to a non-KERS car.

This seems to run against how KERS actually works - surely the better method is that KERS uses more fuel because of the added weight, not because of the speed boost. So if you have KERS but don't use it, you'll still need more fuel because of the weight issue, but you should be able to use your boost to get higher top speed and/or acceleration when activated.

wow you just red my mind :), just posted about that on 1.06 thread!

Just to confirm that the KERS advantage varies from track to track, I have found I am slightly faster in Australia when not using KERS. However, when I go on to Sepang, I'm considerably quicker with KERS installed.

I've discovered my keyboard only registers 2 keys being pressed at the same time, so if I use KERS I have to make sure I'm perfectly straight as I can't adjust once I'm using it. Probably because of that, I'm slower using it.

Have you tried different keys? Sometime using I,J,K,L instead of the cursors will allow you to use 3 keys at once. :)
