I was able to do 15 laps of practice (which is my race setting) instead of being limited to 5. The display showed it as well. Happened only once ...

Here's my two cents...

When you've started the practice session, pressing esc, going to the options screen and changing the number of laps changes the lap amount you get in that practice session as well.

Even if you don't change the value but have it set at, say, 15 laps, and close the options screen makes the change happen too.
