If you would like to translate New Star Grand Prix please have a look at the txt file attached. You will need Excel or something that can read Unicode files in spreadsheet form. Anyone that supplies a new translation will receive a license key to one New Star game.
To Load
- From Excel open the NSGP_TransFile.txt file and choose "Delimited". Next.
- Select Delimiters "Tab". Next.
- Select "General". Finish.
To Add Your Language
- Translate the words/sentences in column B into a new column.
- Don't worry about the language code (Tag) or nation number (Tag_NationId) as I will update these. Just put your nation name instead.
- Please do not change words that start with the $ character. These will be replaced by driver names/track names/items etc by the game.
To Save
- File > Save As... > Unicode .txt.
- Change the file name so it includes your language name.
- Attach the updated txt file to this thread.
This is the list of characters that can be safely used (otherwise some race text or screen messages might not display correctly):
(),-+\/0123456789:ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ`abcdefghijkl mnopqrstuvwxyz
Help File Text
-Extract txt files from zip and open in notepad.
-Change the text to your language.
-Leave any words/letters that are followed by a / character.
-Save as UTF-8 format.
Any questions, just ask. :)

Great, I'll work on the german translation right now. :)
Si, maybe you could leave the instruction for people using languages with special characters ;)
Or maybe it's enough just to translate, and you'll be the person who'll convert it?
I'll try to do it until tomorrow evening ;)

Interesting for me, because of the "ä", "ö", "ü" and so on in German..?
Si, look at the lines 110 and 111 ;)

Yeah, can we use letters like á, ã, ô, í, ì, õ, â, à, é, è, ê, û, ú and ù?
I have a few questions:
1) Names of sponsors like sports car, wrist watch:
Will they be used only in some sentences informing that they're offering you a contract or they'll be listed like in NSS4 (if they'll be listed I'll have to shorten their names since there were not too much place to display "firma zegarmistrzowska" :P)
2. Rest day - it means "spend your day relaxing" or what? I haven't noticed it anywhere...
3. GRID, like Malaysia Grid - what the heck GRID means here? :P
And generally that's it ;) The rest of csv file is.. translated... gee, I didn't expect I'd do it so quickly :)
PS: I've converted it with Builder and... everything works fine, but during the race Polish letters are not displayed (casino, money, teams are displayed properly, but not in the race screen, I mean during racing... - no, no, there are no mistakes like @^ instead of ą or $%$ for ż, but these letters are disappearing, like in the case of LAP - instead of Okrążenie there's Okrenie ;-) ).
siread
03-30-2009, 08:00 PM
1) The sponsor types are only announced in a message "You have been offered a wrist watch sponsorship." So no need to shorten.
2) Rest Day = A day of rest.
3) The grid is the starting line up. Not sure how to explain it properly but it means all the positions on the track for the cars at the start of the race.
The race uses a simplified font for speed. You can use unicode letters everywhere else. The Race text is limited to European (latin) characters. I'll have to get a full list of all the race text but it's the text like "Lap time", "Best lap", "Record lap", "Controls", "Pit Stop"...
Yea, there are also things like "Up" (Arrow up in Polish Strzałka w górę) etc.
However, I'm sending you 3 types of .csv file - the first, divided by ;'s, the second one are columns with only Polish translation (I recommend you to use it, copy, paste, since some lines tend to go left and mingle with English text), and one with everything in columns. It's your choice which one you'll choose :) If you wish, I can tamper with it tomorrow or on Wed and change the text displayed during racings into the text without Polish characters.
If you wish, I can translate the help files, but no sooner than on the next Monday :)
Cheers!

I'll work on Brazilian Portuguese (it's almost done)
A few questions.
The following words I don't know if are noun or verb (or sometimes adjective).
Bet
Brake
Clear
Continue
Deal
Finish
Balance
Other questions:
Home = your house or "begining" (like front page)
B109 and B110 refer to NSS4 - I assume it should be NSGP?
B115 and B116 - they are both "continue" which is verb and which is noun?
Down = down key?
What are "Ground Tiles"?
Hit/Hold are for BlackJack?
Which are the clear/execute/help/screen/select keys? (I understand its about the keyboard, these are not regular keys, are they?)
What is the racing line?
What are the Joy Axis and Joy Hat?
In what phrase is 'handling' used?
In what context is 'skip time' used? And 'All time'?

I'll work on Brazilian Portuguese (it's almost done)
A few questions.
The following words I don't know if are noun or verb (or sometimes adjective).
BetVerb (Place a bet)
BrakeVerb (controlling the car)
ClearVerb (clear the bets places)
ContinueVerb (continue to next screen)
DealVerb (deal the cards)
FinishHmm, I think this just labels the results screen after a race. So in the sense "the end of the race". So noun? Never was very good at English language.
BalanceNoun (the balance of your accounts)
Other questions:
Home = your house or "begining" (like front page) Like the Home Page on a website.
B109 and B110 refer to NSS4 - I assume it should be NSGP? Oops. You are correct, well spotted.
B115 and B116 - they are both "continue" which is verb and which is noun?Whoops, there should only be one line for Continue really. It just means, continue to the next screen.
Down = down key? Yes
What are "Ground Tiles"?These are the grass, water tiles used in the editor.
Hit/Hold are for BlackJack?Yes
Which are the clear/execute/help/screen/select keys? (I understand its about the keyboard, these are not regular keys, are they?)You can leave these as they are. I don't think it matters.
What is the racing line?Again, this is in the editor. It is the line the com cars will follow.
What are the Joy Axis and Joy Hat?Analogue joysticks have an X axis (left/right) and a Y axis (up/down). There are also other axis' on some controllers. The hat is a special control on top of some flight sim joysticks. Don't worry too much about this word.
In what phrase is 'handling' used? How well the car can "handle" corners/bends.
In what context is 'skip time' used? And 'All time'?"Skip Time" means, finish the Qualifying session (skip to the end.) "All time" refers to the points that a driver/team have collected during their entire career/history.
Hope that helps. :)

Breton is actually the Brazilian language - this will be correct in the new version. :)
ravezz
03-31-2009, 11:54 PM
Perfect, I'll check if everything is correct with my translation.
Edit:
I corrected a few mistakes already, only little problems left:
1. On the teams profile site where the abilities of the teams are listened is still written 'top speed', which means 'Höchstgeschwindigkeit' in German. But 'top speed' isn't listened in the TransFile..?
2. In the race, the translations for 'fastest lap' and 'last lap' ('Schnellste Runde' and 'Letzte Runde') are too long for the frame, they overlap it. The only solution without enlarging the frame is, in my opinion, to use abbrevations (for example: 'Schnellste' and 'Letzte'). It wouldn't cause a lack of understanding, I think. What do you think, Si?
siread
04-01-2009, 08:03 AM
I've made the text size smaller for the lap times, bit it still overlaps, so I'll use the shorter text. :)

04-01-2009, 11:58 AM
So here's a corrected version of my german translation (sorted out 2 or 3 things caused by correlation mistakes and for example the 'medieval castle', which is 'Mittelalterliches Schloss' in German but doesn't fit into the frame, too, so i changed it to 'Burg', which means about the same).

Is "Lap Record" = fastest lap in the race?
I'll try to add a corrected version today. I noted some stuff remained in English, even though I've translated it. And there's also some stuff that was not in csv, so it remained in English. I've listed what I've found below.
List of thing that are in the csv and where translated but appear in english in the game:
- "Welcome to New Star Grand Prix. Each week you have a few days to practice the current track. Qualifying takes place on Saturday which determines the starting positions for the race which is on Sunday. There are 17 races in a season."
- "Qualifying will now take place. All cars will be trying to set the fastest lap time. Qualifying is used to determine the starting order of the main race which takes place on Sunday."
- Skip Time
- "It's race day! To win the race you will need to monitor your damage; fuel and tyre wear and make pit stops at the right time. Good luck!"
- Quit (when I press ESCAPE during a race)
List of things missing in the csv:
- Top Speed
- All the country names
- All the nationalities
- "If you have purchased a license key please copy it from your email then press the paste button. To buy a license click the Buy Now button. If you get a message 'This license key is invalid' try holding the Left Control key down when you click Continue."
- In the editor, after I choose what kind of object I'll add, it shows on top right corner words like: Base Level, Track Level, Objects...
- Page1, Page2, etc. in the editor
siread
04-01-2009, 02:10 PM
Is "Lap Record" = fastest lap in the race?
Yes, it is the best lap time recorded. It may have happened in a previous season or in practice though, not just in the current race.
makelw
04-01-2009, 02:15 PM
I found a few things that weren't changed. In teams-section where is info of the drivers, the birthday (10. aug 1988) is still in English. In Qualify session when you press Escape, there is "Skip Time" in English, same during the actual race there is "Quit".
You'll get soon the corrected version of the CSV-file. There were quite a few errors that I made :).
Hi. Text translations (I recommedn to copy and paste from only Polish versions).
+
1) Congratulations! You won the championship! You have been awarded $item in prize money.
Gratulacje! Wygrałeś mistrzostwa! Otrzymujesz $item w gotwce.
2) The season is over. You have been awarded $item in prize money.
Sezon się zakończył. Otrzymujesz $item w gotwce.
---
Hope it'll work at last ;)
There's also blf file, which works fine. (However, Skip Time seems to be moved)
(BTW: I shortened phraes Ostatnie Okrążenie (Last Lap) to Ost Okrążenie and Najlepsze Okrążenie (Best Lap) to Najl Okrążenie. They were blocking out the positions on the screens, but they should be understood perfectly.
Martin
04-01-2009, 02:40 PM
Yes, it is the best lap time recorded. It may have happened in a previous season or in practice though, not just in the current race.
I don't really understood.
Lap record appears in the Teams Screen, for the drivers.
It's like this:
_________Season__Career
Races______1_______1
...
Lap Records_-_______0
I raced the first race and all players have - as lap records in the season. Shouldn't one of them have 1? That's why I'm a bit confused of what it means.

04-01-2009, 03:11 PM

makelw
04-01-2009, 03:23 PM
I hope there won't occur any errors anymore. I hope it's pretty close 100%
I found some things to be changed! (a really minor ones, but when for ex. 4,5 Laps when it comes to fuel is displayed, there turned out that Polish characters must be removed from it...). If it's not a problem, could you change it? (there are also 2 sentences that needed tiny corrections...). I'm sorry for inconvenience, but such things just happen :( I just missed them, but now it's perfect :(
ravezz
04-01-2009, 06:23 PM
Regrettably, there's another mistake in my translation, too. :(
I mixed up 'best lap' and 'fastest lap' so that there's still 'Schnellste Runde' written in the frame in the race while there's 'Schnellste' at the main page now.
Sorted it out, so again an update. I'm sorry Si, I hope this translation update for v1.05 will be the last. :)

There were some gaps in a few languages so please check the attached txt file.

- Select "General". Finish.
- If you update anything do Save As... > Unicode .txt.

Oops, one "biggish" mistake/misunderstanding: in the .txt file I see you list as Croatian (HR) my draft Slovene translation which I have posted only for reference (to be used by Sida79, the Croatian member of the forum - as our two Southern Slavic languages are related). It's useful nevertheless :) soon, I will revise the Slovene column of the .txt file, and fill the gaps.

Little notice, Si:
It's still the older German Version. Probably you didn't update it with the new one I posted on 04-01-2009, 07:23 PM?
Is there any deadline?
If not, I will put up the helpfiles and the corrected version of the Danish language file wedneysday.

Sorry ravezz. Try these versions.
No deadlines really, but I'll have a new version out at some point.
Ok, here's the latest (without bugs) verison.
And don't forget about that:
1) Congratulations! You won the championship! You have been awarded $item in prize money.
Gratulacje! Wygrałeś mistrzostwa! Otrzymujesz $item w gotwce.
2) The season is over. You have been awarded $item in prize money.

I imported the files in the game. The files were updated. I noticed that the help files didn't accept any special characters. Did anyone have the same problem?
Well, in case of Polish characters it is enough to write files in UTF format (you can choose it after choosing save as - try to save it as UTF, if it doesn't work, as Unicode... maybe it'll help).

I've changed the Text document and the .blf file.
I've also done some changes in the help files.

Thanks. UTF works fine. Unicode was a mess. Here are the help files translated in Spanish.

I am lost; I started my translation 2 files ago and don't know what to do, what am I supposed to do now? continue with the old file or create a new one?
New phrases:
Base level - Grunt
Track level - Tor
Objects - Obiekty
CheckPints - Check Pointy
Racing Lane - Linia Wyścigu
Pit Lane - Pas Pit Stopu
Walls - Ściany
Gear - Bieg (if you mean gears changed during driving)
Throttle - Przepustnica (if you mean a part of the car)
KERS - KERS
Turbo - Turbo
Speedometer - Prędkościomierz (if it's diplayed during the racing, Predkosciomierz, without Polish characters)
Use Mod - Użyj Moda
---
It should work fine.
In the file you gave us the Polish translation is a bit outdated - use the last file I pasted here (with help file), please. :)
makelw
04-10-2009, 06:40 PM
What do you exactly mean by Base or the whole Base level :)?
What did you Thor think when you put the Polish word? And also what's it with Mod in the last phrase??
You mean what I thought while translating this Base? Well, first of all I checked the Editor and saw when it appears. It appears when you put grass, so it concerns the "soil", "earth" [I mean Base Level]. Track level appears when you work on, as name says, track - so, I used only Polish "track" [tor], since in Polish translation of the whole phrase would be obscure...
Mod is mod (at least this word in Polish is a borrowing; yea, we do have something like "tryb", but "mod" is also popular). I think that Si is planning adding some mods (like changing F1 cars into Indy cars, or something).
And a message for Si - NAME is used while wiriting your name and naming a map. Hmm, these are two different things.... and now it looks strange in Polish ;)

04-10-2009, 07:41 PM
Thanks a lot Thor :). Yea we have some borrowed words. Mod is "modaus" translated to Finnish though we have quite a tricky language so it would appear in different places.
Base level - Alusta
Track level - Radan alusta
Objects - Objektit
CheckPints - Check Pontit
Racing Lane - Ajolinja
Pit Lane - Varikon ajolinja
Walls - Seinät
Gear - Vaihde -- If you mean just one gear, like the first gear, otherwise if you mean the whole system of gears then it's Vaihteisto
Throttle - Kaasu (is this just a throttle or to throttle?)
KERS - KERS
Turbo - Turbo
Speedometer - Nopeusmittari
Use Mod - Käytä modia
Thanks a lot Thor :)
The pleasure was mine ;)

New phrases:
Racing Lane - Linia Wyścigu
Throttle - Przepustnica (if you mean a part of the car)
I think that "Optymalny tor jazdy" is more suitable for racing lane, but it could be too long. Also, throttle is "Gaz".
Yep, it would be too long and, in fact, "optymalny" wasn't mentioned in the English version so there's no sense in creating something from nothing, especially if it's obvious ;)
Throttle is problematic since Simon hasn't mentioned what he exactly meant [Makelw also is not sure].
macio
04-10-2009, 10:34 PM
I think the point is not to translate every single word, but the sense of whole english sentence, thats why I proposed to use "optymalny tor jazdy", which is more natural form, and it is in use in conversational polish, and "linia wyscigu" is not.
And I'm pretty sure that SI means Throttle as a "Gaz" ;)
I think both are understandable - it doesn't matter what is more natural in conversation, since written language is a far cry from spoken language. I'm not saying you're wrong since your version is good, but I will defend mine which is brief and that was the point ;)
And if we talk about throttle, that's why I added some information in brackets, hoping that Si would explain to us what he had meant ;)
With the newest word additions.

I don't think pea's in need of linguistic help. If you, pea, mean what you should do in which order? First you translate the csv file, all the words, then all the help files. If I'm right Si has updated the csv file as the current one, so you wouldn't add any lines by yourself. Those 13 new lines which some have translated in here might not be in the csv file, but if you do it in the csv file, you should add them at the bottom.
Si, would you correct if I'm lost, thank you :).

Yep you could add the new lines into the old one. Just download the latest transfile from this page sent by Si just to see what are the new lines, there are the 2nd newest and the newest lines at the bottom, so you don't need to start all over. Just copy the new English lines and translate in Portuguese.

I have fixed Turkish translation file because some characters not showed properly. Or maybe you can add support for some Turkish letters (ı, ğ, ş). If you can do that, there is no need to use this fixed language file.
