View Full Version : Did van Persie deserve a straight red against FC Thun?
I watched the whole match, and saw the incident replayed 20 times over. At no point did RvP show any malicious intent, but with the way european refs are going this season, do you thnik he deserved a straight red card?

To the letter of the law, RvP should and did get a red card. With the referee using a bit of common sense and intelligence, he shouldn't have even booked him.
There was a very similar incident in the Rangers Porto match on Tuesday match where Dado Prso has jumped to head the ball, butted the Porto defender and split his own head open. The referee has booked him for dangrous play, almost making it look like Prso has deliberately split his head open to foul the guy #-o
I think we need a sreious refereeing dose of common sense. :x

Since when? you see high challenges week in week out, and rarely do they result in a yellow card? Granted, RvP was high, but then so was the ball, and that's all he was going for... grrr

I saw the report saying it was deemed as serious foul play from RvP, which suggests that the referee was of the view that Persie was deliberately trying to injure the guy, so to the letter of the law, has to go.
However, again, with common sense, we all know he wasnt going for the defender, and we know for a fact he wasnt trying to injure him, so with common sense on the go, should have been nothing more than a "pay more attention, you nearly killed that guy" talk from the referee.
Yeah, agree totally... I'm surprised Arsenal didn't appeal though, he'll miss the Ajax match now :(

i am a keeper
but what still really annoys me is the fact that goalkeepers have everything in there favour they can jump with there knees up for protection
lots other things like this but i cant be bothered to say them
In my opinion he diserved a red card... according to the laws, wat he did deserved a red card

Can someone find this 'law' and quote it?
