Another year, more strange events in the world of Calcio

All I can gather is:

Genoa have been relegated to Serie C1 after gaining promotion to Serie A last season.
Torino and Messina may face relegation from Serie A.
Bologna in line to stay up if Messina relegated.

Anyone out there keeping tabs on this and able to provide a clearer picture? I heard more teams were possibly involved?

Im quite sure Torino and Messina were both relegated for financial reasons. Either they had financial irregularities in their books, or they arent financially stable, the latter I think. In England we just dock you 10 points for not managing your money well, in Italy it seems far harsher.

I do know for certain the Genoa have been relegated to Seria C for match fixing. Serves them right really

Seems harsh in a way though, as in my mind they should have been relegated back to B. Shame cos we can't include Serie C1 in NSS3 as it has 19 teams!

ROME, Aug 2 (Reuters) - Messina earned a last-minute reprieve on Tuesday to remain in Serie A after an Italian appeals court overturned a decision by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) to throw it out of the top flight due to the poor state of its finances.
Torino, the other team denied a Serie A place by the FIGC decision, had its appeal rejected as did a handful of clubs in lower divisions.

A small crowd of Messina fans leapt for joy as the decision was read out by an official on the steps of a regional court in Rome. The official gave no details for the reasoning behind the verdicts.

Earlier in the day, angry Messina fans had blockaded the town's port to demonstrate in favour of their club, halting ferry traffic. Messina is the closest Sicilian town to mainland Italy.

Messina finished seventh last season in only their second campaign in Serie A, the first back in 1964-5.

Seven-times Italian champions Torino were promoted to Serie A after two years out of the top flight when they beat Perugia over two legs of their promotion playoff last month. However they were denied their place because of their parlous finances.

Perugia and Salernitana will be barred from Serie B under the FIGC decision.

Sooooooo... Messina stay in Serie A?
Perugia and Salernitana will join Genoa in Serie C?

What clubs start where next season? argh #-o

They need to sort themselves out, the Italian FAI think there's a hearing tomorrow that will pretty much clear everything up, as they usually annouce the fixtures on the 1st of August.
