View Full Version : No Real Logos? Not a 'Real' Problem [Suggestion]

I was thinking about the scoreboard and it hit me, how can I add logos to the scoreboards if the logos aren't going to be real (at least until you download them for NSGFan, which may even be seeing its name getting changed, but that is another story) so I tought of making custom logos which would change be accessing the database and capturing the teams two main colours.
Don't get it? Let me give an example (or two):
Barcelona
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/4443/barcatp1.png
Manchester United
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/6024/manutdfe2.png
The logo would be the same (through it varies from team, national teams, etc), it would only have two sets of colours and a 'light' transparency and 'maybe' (because it may be something hard to make) have its small name (scoreboard name) below the logo.
I will be making some new logos soon, keep watching.
So what do you think? Discuss.
Had a similar thought a while back and was going to release a load of simple coloured badges. If Si can do something with the colours from the db that'd be great though, moreso with your nice badges :)

I actually took the idea from a previous post of yours (and Total Club Manager).
Two new logos:
Uefa Cup:

(Yea I know it looks ugly but I'll fix it soon)

i think you really had a great idea nando, nothing to argue at all, even logos of cup and confederations are nice.

Nice work Nando, as usual :)
A good idea, hopefully Si will implement it.

Thats a great idea. As much as I liked having the official logos in NSS3 they always looked very messy to me because of their size. Your logos look a lot less cluttered and I would genuinely prefer to see them in the game instead of any official ones.
Obviously this would be great for legal reasons etc but just in terms of aesthetics, I'd rather see logos like yours in the game.
Plus they really look good, Nando has some real skills.

The game already creates fake club emblems, but not as nice as yours Nando. Here are some examples...

http://download.newstargames.com/misc/NSS4/ClubEmblems/ClubIm_17.png

Unfortunately, because most teams have a plain shirt most of the emblems look well, plain. :P

Basically they are created using the kit colours and kit style. If you want to improve them, you will need to edit the following images into your style. Make sute the image size remains 60x80 and keep these colours:
Red = Shirt Colour 1
Blue = Shirt Colour 2
Green = Shorts Colour

This is a black and white image that is laid over the emblem to produce a shine effect...

For plain kits, could it not look at a combination of either shirt-short-sock colour, or in a lot of cases there is a 2nd shirt colour which has been put in place for the yet to appear 'trim' kits?
**
Also worth remembering that the logo size in NSS4 will be bigger (80x60 instead of 60x60) so if someone does come up with some unofficial logos, there's a little more space to play with :)

Si what do you mean by improving them? Should I change the logos but still keeping the kit style?
Maybe instead of a shiny style, a transperant style might be better that would point out that it has no logos and makes the bright colours (reds, blues, greens, yellows, etc) less damaging.
I think what Si means is make your images 60x80 and use the colours Red, Blue Green in the logos. The red will be replaced by the team's shirt colour 1, the blue will be replaced by the team's shirt colour 2, and the green will be replaced by the team's shorts colour. You need to make 1 logo for each of the default logos which represent each different kit style (eg. plan kit, stripped kit, etc.). Then I guess when the final release or maybe in a future beta you will be able to replace the original logo images with yours.

DS is exactly right. If you want to use your logo shape you need to use the colours red, green and blue and make them 60x80. They need to be named ClubShield0.png through to ClubShield17.png and represent the same kits as I have shown.
Si, this really makes the case for at least one 'trim' kit, otherwise a lot of badges will look very plain. Like I've said before, there are a lot of plain kits in the db with the trim colour already set. All it needs is a new kit type. Maybe just one will suffice, with a little on the sleeves and down the side of the torso?

Ok, Si, before I make the logos, wouldn't it be better that, besides the plain one, the trim be the shirt colour 2?

Nick, if you set the trim kits to number 18 (I think if you do that in excel and import, it should be ok). I'll design a new trim kit texture. Shirts and short edges right?

How's this?
Yeah, that's cool. Definitely worthwhile as 1468 kits are now type 18 ;) How will these appear in the editor now though?

Not sure, give it a try. :P
Will do at work :lol: btw, what I recently said about the boot colours was wrong, I've still got to personalise the Prem but I may not bother.
Back on topic JJU!
How is the Shine.png put on top of the logo image? Is there some sort of blending or something?
siread
05-19-2008, 10:38 AM
The program does it, buy you need to create the shine image with a paint package.
I know the program does it, but I was asking how it does it :P. I was thinking alpha blending or something? If its something more complicated then dont worry.
siread
05-20-2008, 01:11 AM
Yeah, alpha blending. In BlitzMax it's simply a case of setting the blend mode, then set the alpha value (0.5 = 50%) then paste the shine image over the club shield image.
Cool. That really does the trick. Amazing difference TBH. Could you double check that it is in fact 0.5 alpha because it seems a bit high compared to the images you posted on the first page of this thread but the difference could be down to something else. One last thing, are you also replacing the grey area around the green with the shorts colour?
siread
05-22-2008, 08:01 AM
You're right, it's 0.4.
Do you mean the thin lines around the shield? Yes, I'm currently replacing them with the shorts colour. :)
ok thanks for that. Ill see how I go with the thin lines...might be tricky since there are a few different shades of grey there.

I'm not sure what you mean. The trim is shirt colour 2.
I think what nando is saying is since he doesnt know what the badge for the trim kit looks like, because you didnt post it, he is asking what colour represents the trim (red, green or blue).
