View Full Version : NSS3 Team Names
Right all... it's that time again where NSS will be updated for next season.
I messed about with the team names a bit last time, and was wondering what you'd like to see for NSS3. Do you prefer Man Utd or Manchester United? Hull City, Hull, or Hull City AFC? Crewe or Crewe Alexandra? Racing Club or Racing? Vasco or Vasco de Gama?
Obviously I can't cater to each and every team so what I'd like is what your choice of the below are, and then vote for it!
1. Full Name : ie, Manchester United. Where possible the full name will be used
2. Shortened / Common : ie, Man United. Where possible, the most commonly used or shortened version will be used.
The poll will run for 30 days, hope you voted!

Well, i think a full name of each individual clubs in the world is better, since some clubs may have the same "common" name. Take Valencia from Spanish La Liga for example, there is a club here in Asia (I think its based in the Phillipines or Indonesia, cant remember exactly... ) also named as Valencia(common) (forgot the full name). ITs best to get the full name of each team, to reduce unwanted confusions.

I too believe full names would be better, less risk of confusions. Here too we have lots of teams with the same name: 2 Grêmio, 2 Corinthians, and so on.... And we have one team called Boca Juniors and one called River Plate too (their last names, I believe, are the names of their cities, but I don't remember exactly).

I've found that using both can be quite useful. IE Arsenal 0 - 0 Man U on the match screen, but full names IE Arsenal tied Manchester United on another...

Will NSS3 have that capability? I know it had that in Championship Manager. Suppose that would be a nice touch actually... could even include stadium / locale (ie, for local derbies) data as well?

I am happy to include a field for a shortened name and also one for stadium in NSS3. Work on the "textual" side of the game should begin in a couple of weeks.

Well, personally i'm happy with the either, but i remember when playing in the conference on NSS2...
"Dagenham and Redbridge are breaking quickly here...
Their 45 yards from goal...
Dagenham and Redbrige get the shot in...
GOAL!!!
Dagenham and Redbridge score!"
is abit hard going... When just "Dagenham" would have been sufficient...
Ideally what statto said would be best though...

I've found the following fields useful in The Football Chairman, whether or not Si wants to use them is up to him of course:
Team Name (Long)
Team Name (Short)
Skill
Geographic Location (Numerical)
County Name (for Derbies)
Current Average Attendance
Team Color 1
Team Color 2
Stadium Type

Yeah, pretty much what I was thinking. Would the county aspect take into account things like Ipswich vs Norwich? Although in different counties, it's pretty much a local derby?
Methinks we need a way of co-ordinating this update between us.. I'll have a think next week (very busy next two days), feel free to PM me your thoughts in the meantime!

Also our local rivals are Wrexham, and we're not only in two different counties, we're in two different Countries

Yes, i think that you need a bit of both, like in the games you could have the shorthand, but when you are going to sign for someone at the start, you could have the full team names.

That's what I'm thinking now, I'll speak to Statto and Si and see if we can get the database kick-started.

Well as far as The Football Chairman goes, I believe that there is a team for every county you can start in so you are automatically their rivals...
I would like to start on the NSS3 database, I've got some spare time right now and I should be programming TFC but hey...

Well chaps, i've managed to import the NSS2 database into NSS3's graphical half. I've set up a team selection screen which is decidedly like SWOS with 77 leagues to choose from. However, the players are still completely random, so i'm adding a team editor to the NSS2 editor. The output will still be text so you will be able to use either the editor itself or simply edit the text file. Hopefully this will be ready by the end of the day. I've already added a team nickname to NSS2 so short names can be included, and there is a field for a player nickname too so if you want you could be called Wonderkid or something. :)
