How old is our player when we start the game? 16, 17...

It was 16 or 17 in NSS3 depending on your date of birth, if you were born January to early August you were 17, after that it was 16.
I expect it'll be similar.

You have to start at 15 at least. Playing from the youth ranks and then try to break into the first team.

Even the Reserve Team option is just one of the "Maybes and probables" from the Confirmed Features...

I reckon this should be optonal, to within a few years. 15 to 20 I'd say, but then you'd lose out on "potential" growth

In my eyes the best starting age would be around 15-16. It would mean more work though, I think. At 15 most players get scouted for teams and work their way up through the youth to reserve and so on.

However, in save file, you can change the year of birth...
at least in NSS3.
