Hmm, didn't find a good english word for it, but anyways - here's the suggestion.

Different games always mean a bit more or a bit less. My suggestion is to introduce a little "bar" or something similar that shows how rough the game is. So, say this bar is on a scale 1-100. Depending on leaguepos and location the bar starts on different numbers. A tough derby might start off at 80 while the league number one faces a countryteam might start off at 20. Now, depending on matchsituations (tackles not resulting in FreeKicks or hard tackles not resulting in yellow/red cards) this bar will increase or decrease.

Depending on how high this bar is, different players will react in different ways (maybe introduce aggression or use determination or whatever). Players with high in this gets very influenced and tends to foul and tackle a lot more when the game is intense while doing the opposite when not so intense. Players with low aggression (or whatever attribute) wont be as affected by the intensity and can keep their head cool.

Examples of things influencing game heat/intensity;

Increase;
Fouls not being whistled
The better team (leaguepos or whatever) is down or drawn
Ugly fouls not resulting in a card
Rival Teams
Important game depending on leaguepos
Long periods without "boring" breaks like throw-ins and goal kicks. Corners does not count into
boring since it's a dangerous situation and probably alot of pushing.

Decrease
Cards being handed out.
Freekicks given.
When play stop, e.g. goal kicks throw-ins etc.
Uninteresting game.
Not rival teams.

This is something I just came up with but I thought we could all try add ideas etc. And yes, of course an option to hide the bar would be in place. Also, I'm sure you guys can come up with loads of other things that affects the intensity. I just threw out what I had for the moment.

So what do you all think? What can we do to better the suggestion or should we just trash it?

Comment people :]

Edit: Oh, and I don't think difficulty should determine whether or not it should be shown but an option. I would love seeing it as I think it would add to "the feeling" knowing what the spirit down on the pitch is. Also, it would be afun thing because if you see your teammate being totally knocked out and nothing happens you might want to take the law into your own hands, satisfyingly seeing the bar increase or unluckily the Ref standing with a red card in his hand. Maybe some random pushing and stuff can happen when over a certain level, just for fun. Not determining like cards etc. but just a graphical thing maybe getting you even angrier in front of the screen ;)

I kinda like the idea, except the bar part. I would rather see it by myself than some bar telling me a number.

But well, thats just me. An option to hide it or a difficulty mode that doesnt show it would please everyone.

Rival game or a derby match is interesting.

An interesting idea to enchance computer players, but not an easy thing to add.
Personally I would split the bar into several measures like: intensity, rivalry, importance, morale, relationship towards ref etc.
If a football game could implements this it would bring a whole new dimension to football games. Unfortunately this it would be a massive job to implement this. First of alle you'll have to work out wich meters you want in the game. Then you should work out a system to affect those meters in a realistic way. Finally you should assign a way for each player to react to certain measures. It won't be any good if all players react in the same way. Actually it would be more ideal if all players had their own meters, since they may react differently to instances during a match. If a team mate gets a red card, some player may loose morale while others get more aggresive.
This would be way to much work to implement in an INDIE game like NSS, but perhaps a simplefied global one bar solution could be added as a beginning. However that would be big as I can't imagine anything like this in major commercial games like FIFA or PES in the near future.
