2002, and a new star has arrived on the scene.

Arriving at newly relegated Oxford Utd. in the third division, Max Edwards surveyed his surroundings favourably. Playing well, getting MoM awards, even cvaptaining the side once, Max was idolized by the fans even after just 20 games for the club. However his brilliance on the pitch at lower levels, and more importantly his 18 goals in 20 game brought the attention of higher level teams. Soon Rotherham were knocking on the door, and, sensing a chance at brilliance, Max accepted a 200,000 deal at 1600p/w bringing himto the North. However he struggled badxdly, and with just one goal in 8 games requested a transfer when news of his dabbling with drugs was released to the media. Obviously he was still rated as a player, and when Coventry offered 971,000 for him, he duly accepted a massive 7k p/w to play for them. However his poor form in the championship continued. It seemed that he wasn't ready for high level football just yet, so, when another offer came in that April, just 10 games after being bought for 900k, for 20k from Norwich and a 6.5k pay cut, Max accepted, looking for a team that could respect him. He scored his first goal in 15 games on his debut, and things looked good. An injury and a goal next match would be his last game of the season. Things looked up though, as he improved his skills throughout.

3 games in, and a transfer offer came in from Rushden in Division 2. I accepted, and left to join them for 1000 p/w, and 81,500 went to Norwich. My goalscoring form returned asI dropped down a league, scoring 9 in my first ten, including 4 in a rout of soon-to-be relegated Wigan. At the halfway mark, we stayed 8th, and I thought the playoff would be a real opportunity having now scored 14 in 20. However it was not to be, as three 0-0’s on the trot and too many draws in general meant we were tenth after 29 games. I had received three transfer offers from the lower ends of the Championship, and rejected them all on the grounds that they didn’t even match my current contract. Sponsorships had come and gone as well, not that I was complaining as the prre-payments left me with a fortune. My current sponsors are Pony (Boots-117,000p/a) and Diadora(Clothes-130,000). A three game injury showed I was an integral part of the team, as Rushden slumped to three defeats without me. However my return heralded a return to form, and Rushden finished 9th.

Division 2 Young Player of the Year.


Instantly rejected big-money move to newly promoted Yeovil. I’m beginning to like it here! However I may come to regret that, as I start my first game from the bench. However I come off and score, and I’m first team from then on. 6 in 10 gives me hope, as does our 7th place After 20 appearances I sit with 12 goals, in 6th.. A great scoring streak in January sees 11 goals in 10 games. Playing brilliantly, and 29 in 33, Evian, the water company, offer to sponsor me. 900,000! I’m rich. Another 9 in 5, and I’m getting used to my awesome shooting. An offer of 14k p/w(!) from VFB Stuttgart, in the German Bundesliga is accepted. Rushden gain 4,000,000 off me. Wow. I leave having played 78 and scored 63 in my two years there.

The step up is huge, however I deal with it admirably. 5 goals in 6 and I show I can deal with the pressures of top-level football at last. With this in mind, AS Roma put a bid in for me of 15k p/w which was accepted. I move for 6million. After 14 games I’ve scored 6 for Roma. I’m liking the Serie A! Scoring my 100th career goal in my 16th game for Roma. However after 21 games I was hit with my worst injury yet-6 matches. Without me Roma win 4, draw 1 and lose 1. I reject a 16.5kp/w offer from Bochum during this period, as I will wait for a higher contract before moving. The 6 match period however, ended the season, and AS finish 3rd after Sambenedetesse and Sampdoria.

A mediocre start with 5 in 8. I pick up and injury for two games, but a normal season, with no pros or cons yet. However after 12 appearances and 9 goals, St. Pauli, 3rd place in the Bundesliga offer 17.5k p/w. I accept and move for 4.3 million. I get my debut goal against Bayern. But I’m playing poorly and when a transfer offer from Chelsea comes in I’m keen to take it, as they are my favourite club. However I negotiate too much, and Chelsea reject my negotiations. Very poor form means we lose 4 in a row. We are now 7th with me scoring just 5 in 11. I reject another contract offer from St. Mirren at 14.6k. A 16k offer from Farense is also rejected. Two sponsorships, Diadora and Mitre, have their contracts rejected an extension. Despite a poor personal season, St. Pauli finish 5th.

Only 2 goals in seven and St. Pauli are 17th. I’m not enjoying this so I put myself on the transfer list to go to a vaguely successful club, after starting on the bench and getting an injury. Sold to Diter Zafra in 4th in Spain for 5 million on an 18k p/w contract. My 200th match, a 1-0 loss to Getafe, and I have scored 132 goals. That’s a goals every 1.34 games… Reebok sponsor me 1million a year as sponsorship. Rejecting Rangers offer of 14.7k p/w. 14 games in and a 2 game injury hits me. A transfer offer from Barcelona, 6 places below, comes in. 18.5k p/w is negotiated and accepted and I leave for 7 million after only 14 games. After the 3 games and 4 goals, a six game injury puts me out for almost all of the season. A final victory, and 13th place is assured

I hope for a win this year. With this in mind I reject an offer from Regensburg of 21k p/w. My remaining at Barca seems good, as the team are 6th, 3 points behind the leaders, after ten games and I have scored 16 of the 19 goals. However a five match injury after the next game means Barca have to make do without there top striker. They deal admirably and accomplish 3 wins, a draw and a loss. I reject an offer from Sampdoria (22k p/w). A goal and an injury against my old club, Diter Zafra, means I’m out for 2 games. Iturn down a huge offer from Juventus in second in Serie A. I want to stay here. I come back, and instantly I’m injured again, this time for three matches. Without me, Barca have lost 3, drawn 1 and won one. I reject an offer from Real Madrid, and with my Evian contract expiring, Red Bull offer me 2,500,000 p/a as a sponsor. I score 4 in a 7-1 thrashing of Figueres, and follow that by being appointed as captain, and scoring 2 in a 3-6 loss to Atletico Madrid. Traces of performance enhancing drugs were found in my system, meaning everyone hates me now:(. Instantly, Nike offer me 3 million a year for boots and clothing sponsorship. Alongside this Coca-Cola sponsor me 3 million a year for drinks. YET another injury after a match against Valencia for 3 matches, means fourth placed Barcelona seem to be out of the running. Without me, Barca finish 6th, a massive 25 points behind first, though only 7 behind second.

With Barca only ranked at a 7 I ask for a transfer. A 22,500 p/w offer comes in from Juventus, and I accept. I’m sold for 17 million. Wow. Barca stats: Played 32, Scored 43. Scoring on my debut against Inter Milan, and a goal every game for 7 games so far. The eighth game comes around, and the manager gives me the captaincy:D. Reject an offer from Leganes. I’m still the captain, and now have been for 5 games. I score 6 goals in a 7-3 thrashing of my old team, AS Roma. I still haven’t gone a game without a goal, after 14 games, and 24 (!) goals, until a game at home to Padova. I don’t touch the ball all game, and it finishes 1-1. A transfer bid from Motril in La Liga is rejected, as is an offer from Majorca. However, England calls me once more, and I go off to join an Arsenal team sitting pretty at the top of the EPL, for a massive 23.5 million. A very strange premier League at that featuring Hull, Tranmere, QPR, Rushden, Boston Utd., Yeovil and Cheltenham. A poor start means that I’ve only scored 3 in 4, but a new sponsor deal from Nike nets me 3,500,000 over 3 years. With 2 games to go Arsenal sit top by 4 points. Will Edwards win his first ever League title? An 89th minute equaliser from Rushden mean that Arsenal are 2 points ahead of QPR on the last day. Arsenal play 9th place Hull, and QPR play 15th place Cheltenham. A hattrick from Edwards means that Arsenal win 3-0 and win the league:).

Great start at Arsenal sees us 1st after 16 games, and I’ve scored 40(!) and become regular captain, including 7 in a 7-1 victory over West Brom. A massive contract offer of 37,600 a week from Murcia comes in and I accept, and off I go to Spain, for just 1 year. A poor 3 on my first game, After 10 games, and just 8 goals, I’ve decided the move to Spain was a bad idea. I’m thankful for my 1 year contract, but the boss asks me if I want to go on the transfer list. I accept. Taranto, 16th in Serie A come in, and are rejected, as are Blackpool, 18th in the premiership. Another offer from Blackpool is rejected. Is this all I’m worth?? I change my mind And reject further offers from Juve and Parma, before cancelling my request. And so, going into the last game of the season, Murcia are top on goals scored, while goal difference and points are equal with 2nd placed Burgos. Burgos drawing with Elche handed us the title. Woo!
