View Full Version : 3D Stadia?

I've seen mention in other threads that the in game stadium will be in 3d. What format will they be in, i.e what program would you need to make a stadium?

I've been playing around with sketchup:

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=6fbc86e9e6255d0c62b8ffb764e5a68a&prevstart=0

and wouldn't mind trying my hand at putting some into the game

good idea but how about we put more detail into it. i made celtic park with rhino 3d studio. i know how to get hold of the others too. i mean full premiership stadiums. even coca cola championship ones too. let me know if you want them and that will be my contribution ;) .

basicly tell me what stadiums you need in game and ill supply them. any league any country and ill see what i can do. i can get all the big leagues stadiums.

I think the format required is .b3d - which is the format used by Blitz3D and I assume by extension MiniB3D which Si has said he's using.

I'm not sure which programs can output .b3d files, I've never fiddled with 3D in Blitz before. Regardless, Si should be able to convert from most major formats if the stadia are for the release version.

cant we use 3ds max? i have loads of stadiums in that format. .max is probably the best format out

Fry Crayola
05-06-2007, 05:11 PM
I think you can create it in 3D Studio Max, but the fact is that the engine Si's using doesn't natively support it so it will need converted later.

Edit: Actually, it may be possible to load in .3ds format files as well. I think Si or anyone else who's used Blitz3D extensively would be better placed to answer.

proevofanatik

.3ds would be good. ill be posting some pics of the stadiums soon. some of them are just amazing

statto
05-06-2007, 06:43 PM
Si hasn't figured out stadiums in NSS4 yet. There's a possibility the game will have a hard time supporting detailed stadia.

If we know what the restrictions are, I can't see it being a problem doing low poly models. In fact that would probably be better. Blundell Park was the first time I'd tried doing any 3d stuff, so the simpler the better :)

statto
05-07-2007, 12:00 AM
I'm hoping we'll find out soon, but I don't want to put any pressure on Si towards finishing the game :) But stadiums are a big sticking point for me so hopefully the engine will be able to handle it.

proevofanatik
05-07-2007, 03:55 PM
yep im hoping that it supports stadiums too. the more detail the better. but if we had to go down the google sketch up road then ill still be a very happy man. infact there might be a way to convert from 3ds to google sketch up. the graphics might not be as good. but you will beable to make out the stadiums. ill put a bit of research into it, to see if it can be done

How can you convert a stadium to 3D? Do you need a 2d Pic? (Yep, you guessed it, not the best using Sketch up, but you are only going to learn by asking)

no pes. in the pc version you can get a kitserver. in there you can put in edited kits, real faces, and also stadiums built from scratch with 3d imaging programs. i download the stadium files and convert them to sketch up.or what ever siread wants to use.

proevofanatik, those stadiums look fantastic! But again, I see two issues:
1) We don't know how well the 3D will be able to be displayed in NSS3 yet - these stadiums may, sadly, be too complex.
2) We're not going to release someone else's work in the game without their permission. Unless you created and converted all those stadiums, as opposed to just converting them, you'd have to settle for including them in a patch (though what a patch it would be! I would certainly download it.)

So cross your fingers...

proevofanatik

that waould be fine. at the end of the day these stadiums were taken by me from a pes6 patch. so if these stadiums are in a patch for nss4 then so be it. as long as they are in some how

sorry these stadiums are meant to be for nss4 i didnt know you were talking about nss3.

I only used sketchup as an example, and google sketchup is very limited in its save types, unless you buy the pro version which is a bit pricey. I know the pro version can export in .dwg as I've used it to move stuff into autocad.

Best to wait until we find out what Si needs first.

I'm afraid I don't have any specific details on the kits or stadium yet as I'm still working on the data side of the game. Maybe in 1 month I will start serious work on the 3D stuff and can develop the game so patching will be easy. :)

Si, if you make personalized kits, get us a template like this one from FIFA2007:
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/2498/template5bn0.png
(Sorry proevofanatik, I am one two but this is the first image that I found...):P

The template should have one front view, one back view. Each contains one shirt, two sleves, shorts and two socks each in their desired view (front or back).

They can be used to create kits like
FC Porto's:http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/3940/portohomekitwr1.png
Arsenal's: http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/3752/home1vz4.png
Milan's: http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/441/adidas1copymp9.png
Barcelona's: http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/8530/homecq7.png

These are just examples.

You can change them anyway you wish.

EDIT:

Maybe in the change kits feature there could be the kits already built or some small, mini kits.

Like the ones on Colours of Football:

e.g.
http://www.colours-of-football.com/colours03/eng/new/eng_avilla_1_0607.gif

Also, flags to put on the stadiums like these:

http://www.soccergaming.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=117087&d=1110712325

And create numerous like these:
Chelsea: file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Alves/DEFINI%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot-7.jpghttp://img211.imageshack.us/img211/5296/cfcflagsad2.png
Lyon: http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/592/ollyondrapzy7.png
Ajax: http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/7977/ajaxvlagtd3.png

I think also a ball template would be nice.

NSS4 will become very customizable and most people like to tweak some things that they don't like so much.

What do you think?

(Didn't find any ball templates)

EDIT:

There are loads of boot colours, maybe you could add a special template for each boot, if you use black shoes you get a plain ordinary boot, if you use a yellow you get the one Ronaldinho uses etc...

I honestly would prefer if we did everything from scratch instead of taking stuff from other games. The jersey templates, stadiums and all are nice but it almost makes me feel like the game is gonna end up like some sort of fifa-pes hybrid deal. This is just my initial feeling but its nice to see the end product of a game which supposedly is being developed from scratch.

Maybe something diffferent for the ball. Don't we need an agreement from the club to make an offical jersey?

I would customize NSS4 on the graphics part (except 3d) and who knows, someday we can see NSS near great names like PES, FIFA or TIS.

PS. Maybe NSS4 could have a movie intro like FIFA or PES. It is kinda like a trailer but better. What do you think?

There will be plenty of time to do them, don't worry. NSS4 isn't expected for a number of months yet. The game is still in its alpha phase, the match engine at this point in time is still in its infancy, and we're still not sure whether or not the game will be powerful to display large stadiums without crapping out completely :)

As soon as Si has the match engine done the soon you can make a patch and give it to Si for testing.

Patience, I know you need time, but Si needs it too and trust me, it wont mind if the patch will come out after the release of NSS4... better late than never, right?;)

If NSS4 has an online feature it is going to one person controls one player.

I have played World Cup Manager and it had it fair share of fun. IF I am not mistaken you could see the zone of the field where the ball is (nothing like FM, if anyone is thinking of that).

As for Euro Cup Manager, I just didn't have the money for it. (And it was in Portugal, dang!)

I've tried them both. sadly as far as management games go they didn't have a lot of replay value, though they're good 15 minutes of fun, and I would have liked to see something beyond the end of the WC. But hey hey, if we didn't have WCM we wouldn't have NSS4 then would we? ;)

the management side doesnt have to be great. as long as u can buy players from each other, then that should be enough. have players wages, and even have the option to be a scout in a match. where you can spectate a match with 2 other human players.
