Hi,

Any ideas on bringing the match engine into 3d. I would be more than happy to design/model stadiums and players and donate for the cause. The main aim would be to keep the existing features, i.e. simplicity of the game with improved 3d visuals.

It sounds that from he next release that most of the player management side will be complete to the point any additions could "spoil" an already near perfect side to the game, therefore as a natural step I think this would be a good idea to maybe start looking at creating or modifing the engine to improve this. PM me if there's any interest in this, I understand that it will be a bit early for 4 but 5 could be a possibility.

Just noticed Simons thread re progress and can see its in a 3d environment. Anyway let me know if you require any stadium models etc...

I have someone working on player models, but I may contact you in the future regarding stadiums. They would need to be very simple structures though. :)

Should be walk in the park, let me know. I'll also need to know the model format for them.

Bythe way... What program do you use?

The final format needs to be b3d (Blitz3d) but I can pretty much convert anything to b3d using MilkShape or something similar.

sweetness. when you figure out stadiums, please let us know.

what do you mean by 'simple structures'?

As few polygons as possible. The most basic stadiums you'll see in 3d football games are a simple wedge with a crowd texture on the slope (a la PulpOf). NSS4 isn't going to be capable of running complex structures with railings, pillars, strange roof scaffold stuff and so on.

It would be great to have the option of 1,2 or 3 tiered stands though. We will also need corner stands that link the side stands together.

awww, are you sure?

i'll still try to push that envelope.

now all i need is a good 3d modeller...

Suppose you can still put railings in and basic scafolding in, it's a simple case of creating a poly plane and using an alpha mask to give the impression that there railings. I.e use a transparent alpha mask to hide the bits you don't want. It's the technique pro evo used back in the early days, only thing is on close ups it appears flat.

the problem is that the game hasn't been released or even an alpha with a match engine so I don't know exactly what or what can't be done. I think that if the game supports simple alpha masks, railing and scaffolding would be simple, and we could see some amazing stadiums (especially considering NSS is more of like an open, collaborative effort than any other soccer game).

As I believe that playing in the same stadium over and over again would be boring, hopefully the match engine will be powerful enough...
