A young player they call Franco entered the premiership at the tender age of 17. After completing trail with Arsenal he was offered a contract and the chance to play first team football.
Poorly advised and without an agent the eager young player signs the contract late at night having had a few drinks. All he wanted to do was play football.
His career stars slowly, and with considerable disciplinary problems. His first red card came in just the second match and further 23 yellows and four red cards were accumulated throughout his first season. When interviewed by the media Franco said that this was his style and if other players didn’t like it he didn’t care. Something his manager and fellow players did not take too well.
Further problems were to follow off the pitch when he accepted the advances of a friend’s girlfriend. Further disappointing his manager, team mates, friends and family. However things did pick up on the field and when Franco scored his first league goal. He was “on top of the world”. Who was to know that this would be his only goal of the season? A season which was typified by near misses and selfless play from the young Arsenal midfielder, who managed to clock up 16 assists.
By his own admission it was a rough start and one dogged by injuries throughout the Christmas period where he missed a total of 8 games in a busy Arsenal season. Influential in both the league and the champion’s league, young Franco was begging to make a mends with manager, team mates, fans and friends alike, even selling his Maybach 62 to the manager for a discount. A car which he had brought with boot sponsorship money from Rbk.
However, a series of poor performances and yellow cards meant that the young star was again out of favour with the manager, despite playing an influential role in the successful champion’s league side.
Charitable contributions such as posing nude for a charity calendar show the kinder side to Franco's character, a player who still claims that he is misunderstood.
"well err... you see I play my style of football, and sometimes me and the ref we don’t see fings the same like..... I fink I gained a bit of a reputation and the refs were quick to pounce on me after that."
Ending his first season with a champion’s league medal and the premiership title, this rising star thought it time to act the part and change his game setting to professional. However, six games into the new season the relationship with his manager has all but broken down. Franco has come to the end of his tether and has requested a transfer.
"Well err... my biggest mistake was singing my contract so young and without an agent.
[Interviewer] - You mean Arsenal have been unwilling to re-negotiate your contract?
[Franco] - err... Yeah."
What is for certain is that having sustained and injury after coming on as a sub in last nights champions league game; it looks like Franco will have two weeks to sit and think about his position at Arsenal football club.
