Just a bit curious that Sports Interactive say they have a new sort of football game on the way. I think it might be this, if its not I think it will be the same sort of game.

Any quotes or links would be useful ;)

NSS4 is staying independent, so no, it's not going to SI Games. I'd like to know where you heard this news about a new type of game though. :)

Follow the link then go to the media blog etc.

At the bottom of that they mention a new football game. My guess then it will be based on you being a player. But I could be wrong.

Interesting. I know one of the developers (Marc Vaughan i think) said in the past that he had thought about writing a player based career game but it never came to fruition. Whether or not SI Games go down this route remains to be seen but I wouldn't be surprised. In fact they asked me to interview for them a few weeks back so maybe they wanted my expertise on the subject. ;) I turned it down because NSS is where my heart is. :D

I have to say that FM just seems to be going down a very sterile road at the moment and it needs to find some of the old spark. FM Handheld is much more fun unless you really can dedicate all your whole life to playing the full version.

I hope they dare not doing so, or we will march and chant on their front door ;)

Well, New Star Soccer has always been a SI...mon Game

It might just be a stupid football quiz game they do every now and again. But if they wanted to interview you that is very intresting.

I don't think it would be a bad move if you did go there, if thats that what they did want. Look what they have done for that Baseball game and Hockey game.

Also I think the new FM 07 is going to be amazing, great new feature's. But you are right you do need lots of game time to get into it.

I think that, if you want to stay indie, then you should, you can count with my support at least, I think the NSG series are the best mate :)

Just wana say hey, just reading through your forums.

FM i'd like to say is far from stale, yea I cant really comment on the handheld version yet, should have some time with it in the future but right now I havent. But FM2007 pc is outstanding from the gold demo and calling it stale is kinda hard to stomach... lol

However, id like to say i played NSS3 awhile back and i've been a huge fan of it, the concept, still think you could, an hopefully will take it a lot further, on and off the pitch, but I think your efforts are classy and highly addictive to play.

However, if Sigames did offer you a position, I think its highly unlikely you would have rejected it especially if it was regarding a game which is similar to this. It could, an may even be this, if sigames did do a game like this it would properly put your game out of business just like fm has done to the premier managers of this world an deep down you an all the readers know that.

Good luck in the future, will wait for NSS4 with anticipation. Also not meaning to cause any aggro with my first post, just my views. ta.

For someone who isn't 'meaning to cause any agro', calling the game creator a liar is a very strange thing to do :blimey:.

Hey, the most rewarding thing I have ever done is create the NSS games, and since NSS3 I have been working for myself, fulltime. I have no boss, no deadlines, and no designers telling me that we need "feeder clubs" to make the game even more realistic. Besides which, they didn't offer me a "position", just an interview. I have no idea what type of new game they are creating so the "putting us out of business" theory is just wild speculation.

By the way, did you know that the Collyer brothers started out making games in their bedroom? They had a passion for what they did and didn't stray from their vision. Had they gone along to the nearest company that would employ them then FM would never have reached the heady heights it has today.

Seriously, i love what i do and wouldn't give it up for the world and the suggestion that I am lying has ****ed me off big style. First post, too. Congratulations.

NSS is fine the way it is. It does not need to go to SI games and I guess Simon is right, with him doing it by himself, there are no deadlines, etc.

And he can also be ehlped by us, forum members and mods, in game features, that wouldn't look very good if he was to go to SI I guess ;)

Amen I really hate the new layout and when you play the game on highlights it's too dependent on situations(only a few goasl aren't predicitable)...

i think FM07 is one of the best football manager games ever

anways back on topic, it doesnt matter to me where NSS4 is going as long as its good but one of my major problems i have when playing NSS games is that it is too easy

Normally I wouldn't do this - but as Si's reputation has been called into question ...

Yes I did ask Si if he'd be interested in interviewing for a position at Sports Interactive - he declined because he's really enjoying what he's doing with NSS which I respect and can fully understand (being part of a coding team making a game like FM is much much different than being a solo-coder making a game like NSS where you can make all the decisions yourself - one isn't better/worse ... they're just different).

(sorry to poach on your forums Si ... but while I'm here ;) )

What do you dislike about the new layout specifically? (and compared to 'which' of the old layouts? - CM4, FM05?).

There are a number of unofficial skins available from sortitoutsi.net are any of these more to your liking? - if not what are you looking for in a layout/skin?

PS> The match engine isn't scripted in any way and generates the entire match dynamically using fuzzy logic based AI - yes a fair few goals are somewhat similar in style ... but irl this is also the case (ie. a certain percentage of goals will come from say 'crosses' or whatever). One of the nice things imho about having a purely dynamic engine is some of the freaky goals which are sporadically posted online - one of my favourites is where a shot hits the post rebounds into a prone keeper and then rolls over the line ... really felt sorry for the poor chap (although that didn't stop me laughing ;) ).

i personaly think the next step for si is to use animated 2d players with pes style freedom in creating formations. it would instantly increase the fanbase (according to many fifa manager fans). i was kinda shocked to find marc here.

Si's actual next step would appear to be using 3D players, but with the same zoomed-out camera of NSS3. Sensational Soccer also offers a lot of freedom in the formation design - I think it's pretty much on a par with PES, just handled differently. You could do the same thing, in essence.

i think we can all understand that when you've created and nurtured a game through various versions that it would be hard to just take the money and run. Integrity is certainly part of it, but also the sense of a job yet to be completed. One day perhaps si might pass the reins on (hopefully not too soon) but thats his choice and people who throw the word 'sellout' around should think twice.

besides, how brilliant is it that we, as gamers, can make concrete contributions to a game that we play and love? seriously, it frickin' rocks.

no other football game franchise will give us that much.

i believe the rationale for this is that if they give us what we want then we won't buy the next installment. i think NSS proves this reasoning wrong.
