Ok, i've decided to come at it from a different angle. :P
This time when you click Online you will be asked if you want to be a host or client. If you are a host it will wait for the client to join. If you are a client it will ask you for the host's IP address. You will have to know that the host is online and waiting, and you will need to know the host ip address - the game will not find it for you. Therefore, to set up an online game you will need to be on a chat program like messenger so you can tell each other your ips, and that you have set up as a host.
I have tested this version on a LAN and it works. (The game still needs a few things ironed out but it is possible to play against another pc.) So if you have 2 pcs on a home network, try having an online game and let me know your experiences.

I have a router/firewall, and my PC is on a LAN. I'll need to port-forward to my PC, I guess. But I already have port 80 traffic going elsewhere.
In online.txt, there is a number on the next line (after your online-name). Is this the port number being used? And if so, can I change it to something other than 80? And does that mean the host/clients all have to change?

My father set up my home's network (so I don't know it) so if anyone would entrust me with his Ip I would be glad to be his client for a match ;)

just type http://myip.dk/ in your browser and it will show you your ip.

just type http://myip.dk/ in your browser and it will show you your ip. That will work for some people but not for others ... depending on your ISP and your local network. For me, myip.dk shows the address of one of my ISP's proxy servers (not my router's IP address, which is what the game needs to know, or my PC's LAN IP address).

Yeah that's true but in most cases it works.

My router control panel shows my external ip. So try logging into your router and have a look.

I know my router's IP, but my main questions are these:
I have a router/firewall, and my PC is on a LAN. I'll need to port-forward to my PC, I guess. But I already have port 80 traffic going elsewhere.
In online.txt, there is a number on the next line (after your online-name). Is this the port number being used? And if so, can I change it to something other than 80? And does that mean the host/clients all have to change?
Anyone about now to try a game?

Gaah, this fails to work for me. Rocky might be able to help fix online up if you ask, Si.

I tried against Snake Eater, and didn't work... I'm trying it against kaldow as soon as we both can

I wrote a program that generates international rosters a ways back. It takes a longass while and you have to edit some of the files manually to get it to work. I hope I didn't delete it.

Ups, I've just arrived from my holidays and it seems that this beta is no longer available :( I think that it was a good idea to make online work. Of course it's a worse solution for users, but it's "easier" for Si to make it work. Maybe when this works completely you can retry the lobby idea.

Unfortunately there won't be an online option in the initial release. I may work on it at a later date but for now it's dropped. Sorry.

Darn, it seemed to be the highlight of the game. Rocky's online system works very well, although it might be coded in a different language - talk to him, he'll know.
