I think the Italians could be in with a shout. I'd like to see a European team win anyway. Pity we Irish didn't qualify, we made a total mess of it, should have qualified easily.

my brain says brasil, my heart says italy and my wallet says argentina (damn i should have place my bet!)
the cariocas are still top of the list they are talented, witty and have formidable forwards but have also learned to play for the result too.
italy are pretty strong and the coach (i personally dislike him but this is a different story) is a good one; the risk is the referee interaction: in italy we are used to such a punch and judy show that when we play in continental competition we get booking and free kick which we are not used to; our standards are a lot of falling off, rolling on the pitch complain etc etc
argentina has the outsider role they have been strong since ages producing talented and strong players but always failed as a group; nowadays they don't have anymore one superstar amongst the other so there is a chance that they will play more as a team.
Watch out for Diego Milito
England is stronger than usual but in the end Svengo will play his part and display the usual fort knox tactic and counter attack which will lead nowhere.

Well, for me,I would naturally go for England, but I dont think the can with the quality of players they are expected to parade, but i wish England best of luck, ( didnt mean to abuse any one), besides a fully fit brazillian squad can beat any team in the world.

Wonderedboss,look
Brazil are 5 tims championship of world;
Has many players in the world(Korea,Japan and the region of Arabia has most);
Has Great players in Brazil and Europe;
The Most Competitive tournamet of World is here(Brazil);
We are the best national team,for the people;
is not possible Germany,England,Italy,France win Brazil,only Japan,Arabia and Costa Rica is possible,because the manager is Brazilian:
Japan:Zico
Arabia:Marcos Paquetá
Costa Rica:Alexandre Guimarães(Play Against Brazil in 1990)

I have no dought that Brazil won 5 times the World Cup.
It has many players... It doesn't matter... China (no offense) could have lots of players around the globe and still lose...
I have no dought that it has great players in Brazil and Europe...
The most competitive championship... I don't agree... I mean... It has lots of games team, etc... But it doesn't have the quality as, for example, the Premier League.
If you are the best national team... Only time will tell...;)
The manager doesn't have to be brasilian to be the best or to be able to beat Brazil... In the Euro Cup 2004, Portugal, who were/is coached by Luís Filipe Vieira lost in the final against Greece... In this Euro Cup Greece (no offense) proved that the less favourite team to win can win...

I am portuguese... And I think Portugal is going to be the one holding the cup!:dance:

Quality of a tournament is nothing without the competitive of a tournament
How many teams wins the Premier League(ENG)?10
And Serie A(ITA)?9
And Spanish Primeira(SPA)?11.
And Brazilian League(BRA)?17.
It's the same team win the tournament with the antecipation of rounds to close the tournanent in Europe.
Here,in the last two years,the champion just see the trophy on the last round,in the europe,the trophy goes to the team 4,5,6 rounds to finish the championship.It's much easy in Europe,a big team win.Here,is difficult,for example:
Brazilian Cup 2004
Santo André(Série B) 1X1 Flamengo(Serie A)
Flamengo 0x1 Santo André
Brazilian Cup 2005
Fluminense 1X1 Paulista(Favourite)
Paulista 0X0 Fluminense
Série A 2002
Santos 3X1 Corinthians(favourite)
Corinthians 2X4 Santos
Serie B 2004
Avaí 0X1 Fortaleza(Favourite
Bahia(favourite) 1X3 Brasiliense(Champion)
No is comparated to this,anything happens in Brazil in the best moment.

Mad2Ad
04-23-2006, 10:46 AM
Yeah i would agree but one thing about that is because i understand european football more( eg the local derbies and just plain who suppose to be the best)

in south american football i know boca river plate? r good and sao paulo(although i was very dissapointed with them in the world club thing) liverpool shpould have easily beat them sao paoulo seemed more european the liverpool as the just defended after they scored.

I cant belive im saying this even though i voted for england but i wouldn't mind seeing germany win it i bet it would be good to watch them and the home crowds cheer them on. Come to think of it though if england and germany do meet like they could do i bet that there will be more english fans in the ground then there will germans. the support from england is unbelivable. Like in Portugal when england played portugal there where more english in the crowd. Appearently there will be 100,000 england fans going germany which will be more then anyone other then germany.

Plus any else heard englands world cup anthem its surpose to be better then the legandary three lions anthem but i think its pretty poor.

I don't mind saying this again. The No. 4 team in the world - the United States.

yeah but fifa's ranking system is terrible would you say that usa are better then argentina, holland etc(i dont think so) i would rank germany in 19 higher then usa. The only reason why usa and mexico are so high is because they play poorer teams.

statto
04-24-2006, 05:43 AM
Well considering that Holland are ranked higher than the USA, I wouldn't.

And that's the thing about the ranking system, you're only as good as who you play, but there is some merit to it and even if we might be slightly overrated we're still fourth. It's not like the USA is awful and getting fourth. (They did lose convincingly to Germany recently though).

Even the WC isn't a good indicator of who is good though. The USA got screwed in the group (if the rankings were correct we probably should have been seeded ahead of Mexico or Spain, which is probably another indicator of why they are flawed, btw I am not saying we're better than Mexico or Spain). There's always a couple upsets and a couple teams who aren't on form for the tournament. I mean, hell, my tournament simulation had Cote d'Ivorie reach the semifinals 10% of the time, and they not only play in one of the 'groups of death' (C & E I would say), but they're the weakest statistically of the teams in their group. And one lucky/fluke result can eliminate a Sweden in the knockout stage. That's why who wins the WC can say they are the best in the world, but were Turkey and Korea really the third and fourth best teams in the world four years ago? I'd venture to say they weren't.

statto
04-24-2006, 05:48 AM
BTW my Simulation Results (+- a couple % points, havent done the exact math):
Team and percentage they'll reach the semifinal stage according to the simulation (not an accurate indicator by any means but meant to simulate randomness, play the potential matchups in the knockout stage, and skill among the teams. I'll release it shortly)
1 Brazil, 45%
2 Argentina, 40%
3 Germany, 34%
4 Italy, 32%
5 Czech Republic, 32%
6 Mexico, 26%
7 Croatia, 23%
8 France, 20%
9 Spain, 19%
10 England, 16%
11 Holland, 14%
12 Costa Rica, 11%
13 Cote d'Ivorie, 11%

well i dont think england are going to win the world cup any more.
as per normal all are best players are getting injured again. Rooney(out for six weeks) Owen ( looks like he wont be up to match fitness) terry got injured by rooney but dosent look to bad. The only news at the minute that could cheer me up would be if Ronaldinho got injured.

well actualy are defense is looking good rio terry cole and neville pretty good i would say but without rooney how the hell are we going to score without him. Gerrad and lampard never play well together and i dont think either of them will play brilliant we need carrick in the middle to protect the back 4.
Any way this is what my England team would be at the moment.

=================Robinson

Neville======Ferdinand=======Terry========= Ashley Cole

Wright Phillips=========Carrick==============Joe Cole

===========Gerrard=========Lampard

===================Crouch

Gerrard and Lampard would be alowwed to get forward as much as possible.

its gd to make a simulator and im not knocking you statto but i think most of these teams are in the wrong place and most the percentages are wrong. is this suppose to say brazil have an 45% cahnce of winning the world cup because thats totally wrong more like 10% no one would ever have like 1in2 chance of winning it.

Mad2Ad

well then im confused because they cant be percentages thats just wrong what are they

statto
05-01-2006, 05:42 AM
They are the percentage chance, based on the simulator, that a team will reach the semifinals. I cut off every team that was less than 10%. The total should add up to 400% but again I rounded the percentages. (If four teams have a 100% chance, that's 400% total).

statto
05-01-2006, 05:43 AM
BTW England's chances sans Rooney, bwahaha, a full US team would beat them ;)

lol i like the american team some good players but i just cant help remembering when england went to america with there poorest team beat america and england played poorly too.

so it means if you got 100% then you would actually have a 25% chance of getting to the semis knowing this makes the smulater seem a lot more acurate.

statto
05-01-2006, 06:40 PM
No, it doesn't make it 'more accurate'. Say Brazil makes the semifinals every single time - then their percentage would be 100%, and there would be no doubt that they would make the semifinals, not 25% - that implies they would make the semifinals one out of every four times.

Because four teams make the semifinals, all the percentages add up to 400%. Since two teams make it out of the group stage, that percentage is 200%. If team A and B always make the group stage, they both have a 100% chance of doing so, and teams C and D have a 0% chance.

However, winning the finals does add up to 100%, since there is only one team which could win.

If you had a 100% chance of making the semifinals, you could estimate that you would have a 25% chance of winning the final assuming all the teams in the semifinals were of exactly the same caliber.

statto
05-01-2006, 06:44 PM
lol i like the american team some good players but i just cant help remembering when england went to america with there poorest team beat america and england played poorly too.

Actually England played a very good and determined first half but couldn't keep it up in the second and allowed the USA to score their goal. The US was resting some players for their upcoming qualification match as well. Kieran Richardson did score twice but it was still a close match, and if you put these two teams together in the World Cup I'd think you'd see a very close game with either team capable of winning.

Mad2Ad
05-02-2006, 01:49 PM
yeah kerin richardson isnt even considered for the world cup though he is like 4 tier player not like ashley cole or steven gerrard 1st tier. thats wat im getting at they only had about 3 1st team players. Yes every single football match both teams on the football pitch no matter who they are have a very capable chance of winning. I do though think it would be a close match( not because the too teams are evenly matched though) because with Sven's tactics it will never allow us to dominate a match as we just back of as soon as we score a goal.

statto
05-02-2006, 06:28 PM
I disagree, the USA has a number of great players (Donovan, Beasley, Keller, McBride, among others). I hope that they meet in the semis or finals (only way they could meet) so that it shows that the USA do have the players to compete well on the world stage. They're naming their team tonight.

I agree with statto United States are a well drilled solid side. They have some of the best keepers in the world PROVEN brad Friedel saved more penalties than any other keeper in the 2002 world cup. If it went to a shoot out between us and the states you would have to fancy them. England are still the bette team though and I would fancy us over the 90 minutes

tezmac
05-04-2006, 12:08 PM
I agree there. England are a great force, with or without Rooney.

USA are a solid side, they rely on tactics over talent and flair, which gives them consistant results compared to the likes of Brazil, who dazzle opponnents with their flair but they tend to concede a lot.

JJU
05-04-2006, 12:54 PM
Moot point as Friedel won't be playing in the WC, though I agree the US keepers are good.

I still haven't voted yet, but don't think England will win it, as much as I want them to. No-one else really stands out for me at this moment in time :confused:
