Thing is, John's site is not officially affiliated with NSS, it's a fan site. So no need to contact anyone.

1. An unofficial forum (were you could post hints an other stuff about the game)
2. A goal of the month (the prize insteed of an item from the NSS Shop, it could be a box of chocolats;)
3. A hints page for every game
4. More info about all of the New Star Games (including ECM and WCM)

... I have more but I can't remember now:p

i spoke to john the other day on MSN, he's been chock ablock at work and has hardly been around. However in the next few days he is adding a commentary file download, so you have commentary!!!

As for a forum, I think its a no no, we have a forum, but however a guest book or a comments system could be welcomed, I will speak to him at some point between now and christmas, and when he adds the commentary Im sure he will turn up here and let us know.

Add spoken commentary to NSS3, this is not 100% right but adds a little bit of fun to the game, click the above link, save file as and extract. You will need to make a new folder:

C:\Program Files\New Star Soccer 3\Game\Sounds\ make a new folder called Commentary and install the download.

Dial up warning this is a very large download, as this is a large file we do ask you for the following to help cover costs, please do not post the direct link anywhere [we get paid on page impression!] also click on an Ad, this keeps the money rolling in to pay for the bandwidth costs.

I did what Siread says in that post and it works. I created a folder for cards another for goals, weather, fouls, etc., then put each mp3 in their correct folder. Why does the game not have real player names? It seriously spoils the game when playing with names which are not correct. Is there anywhere that i can get the real names?

IMPORTANT EDIT: We have decided to fudge all the player names to avoid licensing issues. This is why, if you start a new game you will see players such as John Tirry and Roneldinho. If you are loading an old save then this won't affect you, but new games will have incorrect player names.

About the commentary;
I tried to make my own commentary by simply recording things like "what a goal" and so on then saving them with the same name as it is in Commentary folder (like RedCard1 and so). BUt it didn'T work, the commentary man just doesn't tell the ones that I recorded like he knows it's me. Is there anoy other way to make my own commentary??

Were they the same type of audio file? The commentary sounds are MP3s, so I think customs have to be MP3s.

I spoke to John early, it would appear the Commentary file he was hosting was a dud..... hopefully you should of worked this out when you unzipped the file....because it was empty!

Ok, also I was wondering about the names in NSS4. Istead of having rubbish weird names, why not have the real names with an extra letter at the end. I know about you cant put real names in, but if you have, lets say Gerrarrdd or Owenn etc, its not the real names and easier to recognise the players

It's been discussed and the rubbish wierd names make sure that there won't be any lawsuits. Owenn or Gerrardd wouldn't be enough.

I'm hoping to write my own program that lets the users change the names themselves but it won't work unless a new system is used.

i downloaded the NSS player names file. now where do i put it exactly? because when i put it in C:\Program Files\New Star Soccer 3\Data\Leagues,
there is a file called "original", so do i delete it or leave it there? and when i paste the contents of "league2006" in C:\Program Files\New Star Soccer 3\Data\Leagues, do i overwrite everything?

You copy the files into the data/leagues folder so they replace the existing files.

However, depending on which version you are running, you may now have 2 files for each country (ie, England and English). The next time you start a new game, it will look at England and not English .

It won't make any difference to your current save game.

Are you playing a save game you started before 3.14b8 was released? If so, your save game will be looking for English, French and German folders instead of the England, France and Germany folders that should be in the download.

If not, then you must have put them in the wrong place ;) Post a screenshot from windows explorer showing the directory structure if in any doubt.

I just did a fresh install of the latest version of NSS3 and installed the player names.
Now, when I try to start a new game, I get
Error NSSDLG2_101: Could not open league Austria.dat

I just downloaded the file from nssunplugged.com as well.

EDIT: When I start the game NOT using the Full player database I get that error with Austria. If I load full player database, it loads up until "Faroese.dat"

Any thoughts?

Anyway, I fixed the problem by renaming the Faroes Island.dat (or something) to Faroese.dat. It's working fine now.
I couldn't figure what was wrong with the Austria.dat though. Had to load the full DB.
I couldn't get club logos though, even tho I followed the instructions. Ah well there's no such thing as perfection :)

Whenever I install this file I get an error saying that there can't be an odd number of teams and to use the editor to fix the finland league and then the game closes when I hit ok.

Godammit :( Finland have 13 teams because one team was refused a licence this year. All I can recommend is to delete Finland from the leagues.dat file (use metapad to edit this), not forgetting to lessen the number of leagues at the top of the file.

There will be an updated set of files in 5 or 6 days, so please bear with us until then.

I tried deleting one team from Finland's league and then I got an error saying less than 8 teams which seems a little bit ridiculous because Finland clearly had 12 teams in its league. So then I just deleted Finland lol. Very satisfying to delete an entire country that is giving you trouble ;)

Oh btw an easier way to do this would be to just open up the editor and delete the league from there. That helps to avoid having to deal with those messsy little details.

I've recently downloaded the real players names available from NSSUnplugged but i keep getting an error when loading a new game. Every time i start with a full database it says "cannot find league _Free_and_Retired". I deleted that line from the leagues.dat file then encountered another error. The game couldn't load the league.dat file. Anyone able to help with this??

Hmm, I have also recently downloaded the player names from NSSUnplugged and didnt encounter any error when starting a new game with full database, are you sure you downloaded the latest file? also, don't know why, the download page shows two links one with a name like "leagues40" and another one with "leagues 60", personally I dowloaded both and just extracted them to the leagues folder but looking at them it appears that the difference is only the number of leagues it contains, so, if you downloaded the one that says "leagues40" I suggest you download the other one that seems more complete.

It could also be an issue with the editor if you created or edited something and when it was overwritten by the Unplugged files it created the problem.

If downloading again the files from NSSUnplugged doesnt work I would say that installing the game again should solve the problem, then you just overwrite the league files with Real Names one.

PS: I have no such line called "Free and Retired" in my leagues.dat file

i downloaded the 3.16 Dowload Fixes for NSS3 and the problem solved.

No, I don't think so. A few countries might be updated already, but moreso for the purpose of getting the NSS4 databases up to date. I don't think it would be worth releasing an update when so few have been updated.

I don't know where on the site I can DL 62 or 43 league files, it only gives fulleague and thats it as far as I can see.

I'm sorry, I am very stupid when it comes to computers. I download the files, and do what with them exactly? Do I need to start a new game for it to take effect? Sorry to be so dense, but could someone give me a little walkthrough of what I have to do with the files exactly :redface:

Yes, you need to start a new game for the names to take effect. This is not the case with the images.

The names have to be extracted in: C:\Program Files\New Star Soccer 3\Data\Leagues

(Not neccesarily Program Files if you installed it in another place)

Images: (quoting JJU)

If it doesn't exist I think you need to update your version to 3.16 and if it is still not there, just create it.

1) Yes, they are compatible with all NSS3 versions which support stadia.

Sorry, I don't follow? Basic version? What version are you running? If it's anything other than 3.16 then you need to upgrade as we won't provide support for anything but the latest version.

I am currently doing some things and this is what it will the site have:

All updated downloads;
If possible (NOT YET CONFIRMED) there will be a 2007/08 DB update for NSS2, courtesy of the website;
It will have our reviews of the NSS series and others. We will be fair. ;)
And one of the thing that I am keen on getting is a special, mini site for each international forum.
Once Si releases a pre-alpha, an alpha, a beta, we will, with Si's permission, evaluate every detail of the game.
The only problem is the NSG News, as it is extremely hard and I think I may make it a small, magazine-looking, blog.

I think that at least half of the issues we have had with the real names and other fan-provided patches are due because of some mistake in the folders you put them in.

Please make sure you double check you've extracted them in the right folder :)

Failing that, I believe Nando is fairly more qualified to help with that than I am ;)
