1st of all I'd like to compliment Si on how the game engine interprets the offisde rule. It is very realistic!

With the 1 exception. When a corner is taken, the defence stand around the edge of the 6yd box, sort of playing the offside trap.

However, as the ball is being played from the corner of the field, you can not be directly offside from a corner kick. (Otherwise, the defence would stand on the half way line!)

The result of this is that if a player is between the line of defence and the keeper and is the 1st player to touch the ball, he is offside.

In a similar vein, when a free kick is taken near the edge of the pitch but within the 18 yard box, the defence behave similarly, and a striker stands between the keeper and defence. However, in this case he is actually offside. But if he is actually offside, then why the heck is he stood there! Also, coz Si has coded the game so well (ie exactly how the FIFA rules are set), even if he collects the ball from an onside position, an offside is given against him as he was offside when the ball is played.

I'd like to add to the corner issue - I've just had a corner and my teammate was deemed offside when he attacked the ball.

I've included a replay.

From my understanding of the offiside rule from corners:

As the ball is level with the goal line then it is being played back into the pitch, therfore all players are onside once the ball is played as they are onside to the ball's position?

The replay shown there should have been onside then as the scorer was onside to the ball's position??

Yeah, looking at the replay, it looks like it is a bug with offside. It is impossible to be offside from a corner from the position that attacker was standing in.

Yes, although the explicit rule is "you can't be offside from a corner, a throw in or a goal kick".

It being completely impossible to be offside from a corner becomes moot.

However,

One of my team mates just scored a good goal ... But he was a million miles offside! (See attachment)

From what I can tell, the reason it isn't given as offside is because he's so far offside, he's behind the opponent's keeper! I guess NSS doesn't realise a player is offside if there isn't a single opponent between the forward and the opponent's goal.
