about the demo:
- the AI seems to be smarter as in the beta :)
- i still think that a Sensational Soccer-style 4 button mode would be easier to handle
- the aim cursor should be moveable when pressing the shoot button while running (like NSS2010)
- the aim cursor should be stuck when pressing the shoot button at set-pieces (so you can first set the direction, press the button and concentrate on the flair you want to give the ball without changing the direction just before the ball leaves the foot)
- the UI buttons in the beta were better. they went better with the whole UI style i think
- the one button control is really weird sometimes: i run towards the ball, the player automaticly passes to nowhere, i get to the ball again, the player passes over the sideline
edit:
- there's still the penalty-shootout error when scoring from a rebound
- the pass-receiver autoguidance sometimes is a pain in the ass, they allways run towards the ball, even when it's better to run into the path of the ball
- the auto-switch should instantly switch to the player who has the best position currently it's like this:

i hit a cross, the player in the box gets selected while the player with the best position automatically runs towards the goal (and away from his good position).
the ball reaches the player who had the best position, but by the time he is selected he ran too far towards the goal and can't reach the ball
personally, i get the best game experience when i set the speed to slow, acceleration=0.58 and joggingspeed=0.89.
i'd also like if the shots on goal were faster and the lobs went further (corner to the long post).

i think the problem with the shots on goal feeling so slow is that it only uses the shot parameters inside the box. if you are outside all shots use lob parameters. nevertheless kickpow_shoot should be increased to 0.11-0.12
i'd like to see at least a 2-button control system with one button for pass/slidetackle/lob/passing-header and one button for shoot/attacking-header/blocktackle and one-timers only getting performed when holding the button before you get the ball

I had to try to play one touch football all the time but more often than not I was giving the ball away cheaply or kicking it into touch. I will persevere and give it another go later but there's my observation for now.

The pass receiver will make a first time pass if you tap the button before it gets to him. If he is passing without you pressing something then there must be something wrong.

another thing that i noticed - when making a foul, the freekick is taken where the center of the fouling player was and not where the player fouled was. once i was outside the box, got fouled from a player inside the box and got a penalty

Gave it a go, but was a little put off as defending was so hard, it seemed to change defender every second which ment every player i was controling was going the wrong way. Anyway...still looks like you've done a fine job Si, maybe because i'm from little ol New Zealand where we dont know soccer. Any plans for a rugby version?
What are the system requirements? I get still frames using my old laptop with integrated intel graphics. I am able to play the newest New Star Soccer.

bug found.
so im playing as SA and the score is 1-1. The game goes to extra time, but instead of there being a break and another kick off like you would imagine, the players switch ends and get to their new positions, while the game is still playing.
Then i went and scored to make it 2-1... so with the score at 2-1, and a minute left, i went and scored an own goal, coz i wanted a penalty shoot out :P and then for some reason, the score went to 3-1 mexico's way instead of 2-2 :|

I think some work needs to be done on player changing. Too often it changes to another player when you don;t want it too, in particular when defending it will stay on a player behind the ball,, rather than one of the defenders in front of the ball, which is frustrating. Also it is too hard to pick up a loose ball, you seem to have to be pixel perfect to collect it, or you run right past it. Needs to have a little bit more leeway I think. I did also find that when in the box the and you pass sideways to bypass the keeper, instead of shooting the players seem to keep trying to pass back across to each other.
It is ace though, on a NSGP type engagement level. Looking forward to the full version and the world cup.

Hey,
Been playing the game for a while now, it's good fun, though takes a bit of getting used to.
Couple of things I noticed, 'translated by' is misspelled on the 'Thanks to' scrolling the bottom of the menu page (As 'tranlated'). Thought I best mention it incase you hadn't noticed.
Also, I got into a penalty shoot-out as SA, it was 2 - 1 and I missed a penalty firing straight down the middle - the keeper saved it and the ball rebounded straight to my player and I took another shot which went in.
The goal stood, and I guess the game read it as an open play goal because the teams sort of half reset and I got to take kick off, though both keepers stayed in the goal where the penalties had been taken.
Sure it's a simple fix, but you may not have occured during testing :).
Good luck with it, I'll certainly be purchasing the full version.

a nice game with a great atmosphere!
The sound is amazing and really get's you in the right mood for this little game.
It's a little to early for me to judge the gameplay itself but it's really fun for the first few games.
what I would add are some rough team skills.
GK-DEF-MID-ST from 1-5
like Italy would get 5-5-4-4 or something or Brazil 4-4-5-5 or something like that.
It sort of reminds me of an old sega mega drive game. World Cup Italia '90.
I'm not sure if it would be too much for this arcade style game but it would add a little more depth without destroying the atmosphere.
what do you guys think?
the new demoversion is a huge step forward :)
with the fixkick parameter set to 0 it's absolutely nice to play :)

Love the crowd. STill a few issues:
1. The player slection still changes too quickly, i.e. nearest to the ball, which causes problems when trying to defend. Needs to hold to a player a bit longer to give you a chance to catch up, as often switches to a player at the side which causes you to end up running in the wrong direction when the player switches.
2. Still think it tries to pass in the box too much instead of shooting. Maybe because I am just tapping the button when I should hold it? AI should pick the shoot option if you are directed to the goal rather than a player when in the box.
3. Players shouldn't go down the tunnel before extra time. Needs a pitch huddle animation.
4. There is a bug, when it is half time, and the opponents due to kick off, it sometimes kicks off instantly from the half time whistle before your players are in their own half., and you see your players running up the pitch with the keeper trying to get to the opposite goal, but the opponents are already running up with the ball and score!!
Super game though, I'll buy it with the bugs if it will make you release it quicker! :D
I still want New Star Golf though please. Has to be top down, like Mario golf though. ;)

I have a feeling that the ball does not stop rolling realistically, i.e. there's too little friction and it keeps going ... Should be fixed for realism, IMO.
What would also be cool is a training mode, in which you could test and practice the simple-yet-intricate control scheme in some standard situations, set pieces, etc. Perhaps with specific challenges and achievements. But first and foremost as a controlled environment for controls :)

Appreciate that 2 are just world cup versions, but couldn't these be combined with the main game.
But why is there sensational soccer & sensation world soccer?

Really impressive game you have here. Definitely got the 'pick up and play' + fun factor. Great that the players have 360 Deg control. Sound is very atmospheric. Closest thing to a quality modern day Sensi Soccer that I've played.
Couple of thoughts:
Sprite animation lets things down a little:
- The '2 stage' leg animation looks a bit out of place (compared to nice smooth pitch movement, etc).
- The 'no diagonal' player sprites could be improved.

In retrospect I maybe should have gone with Sensational Soccer: World Championship or something like that but I don't like long titles. Anyway, there are only 2 Sensational games in total.
Graphics and animations will be updated when I start work on NSS5 which will use this football engine.
I hope to include basic team data over the next week or two (that will mean team selection, substitutions, bans etc are included) but I will release it initially without this feature.

good to hear you are planning to go back to 2D, i loved the 2D sensational game engine in NSS3 :)
it makes the game incompareable to the 3D soccer games of the big companies. many people - like me - love to travel back to their childhood (sensible soccer), the 2D engine remembers me of the good old times ;)
i hope that you'll be able to choose between 1 button-control and 2 or 4-button control in NSS5.

i just tried to delete the contour from the player sprites, i think it makes the game look more retro while keeping the modern look of the sprites

Superb, 2d game again. This engine is great, always preferred a good old 2D sensi game to anything else. Just needs a good manager mode, which I'm sure NSS5 will have.
Are we still getting a NSGP2 though?
would be nice if there was a fixkick_setp option in the settings file. i'd like to have the direction fixed when taking a freekick, but not when running ;)

In set-pieces the arrow is always fixed once you start powering it up. Or it should be at least.
Are we still getting a NSGP2 though?

haGi, would you mind posting those sprites?
i attached them, but it's useless in the new demo since the sprites are packed into the .exe i think. but you can test it with the beta.
some parts look extremely thin, because i only deleted the contour and didn't add anything.
i didn't change the keeper sprites, just wanted to see how it looks (imo it looks amazingly retro).

edit: shouldn't be that hard for the one who made the sprites to make them without the outline, would be nice if you could choose between outline and non-outline

well, about the demo... well, i like the engine, but the gameplay needs a loooooooooooooooot of improvement ;)
- only 1 key to do the passes, lobs and shots is really bad for a football game :(
- free kicks are so hard to beat them
- itīs hard to make a shot to the beacon, and to aim too
- lobs are hard to make them too
well, but as i said before, this game will suffer many and many updates, i hope.
And simon, please try working on the online multiplayer mode for the nss5... it will bem important for the sucess of the game ;)
and i believe the online on NSS3 will be great too, cuz, if netsoccer2 have many and many players, NSS3 could have many more than it, cuz itīs much better than NS2, TRUST ME ;)
But the engine is good, congratz for that SI ;)

Had the half time bug again, where it kicks off when all your players are still in the wrong half.
simon, would it be possible for you to make playersprites editable? id like to delete the outline ;)

Hi guys,
I found a good setting for friction, the ball slows down more reallistically now.
Slightly increased friction: fricGrass=0.98 needs to be offset by a slightly stronger pass: kickpow_pass=0.075. I tested this, and it works great for me. A small improvement, but I believe it should find way into the final version :)

I should add that I disliked the default settings in cases when the ball was deflected or missed and players were chasing it. It didn't seem to slow down and always rolled all the way over the line for a throw-in or a corner.

Will do, happened the first game I played on the new version, but not since.
The crowd should be cheering when the lap of honour is done after winning too I think, or at least half the stadium anyway!

Bug in 1.02 demo - when the keeper dives sideways to deflect a shot and the ball goes out, a goal kick is given instead of a corner.

Hi Si,
Got a replay of the half time restart error. You can't see the half time logo on the relay, but it did come up. You can see the goalkeeper and players start to swap round. I was Brazil, the computer is PRK. Added the replay file as a zip.

Edit - also had a crash on the full game when loading a replay from the main menu. Watched about 4 then got kicked to windows.

You need to edit the engine file in Program FIles\Sensational World Soccer\Settings.

I found a bug. Don't know if someone already posted it.
On shoot-out, after 10 shoots from both teams, the arrow mark is set on the goalkeeper, but he doesn't go to the penalty mark to shoot the ball, he just stays there.

Save it to your desktop then move it back into the folder.
I played some matches and i have to say that the graphic experience is exceptional reminding of the good old days, but the game play is really lousy.
The most annoying thing is the one button for all function. Is really hard to imagine what action your player will take next when pressing it. :) Sometimes i really don't feel like passing the ball, i just want to send it a little in front... not to speak about the assisted passes the seldom are going where i want to place the ball really. Then the lobs... terrible.
And again, the goalkeeper is so unnatural...
All in all, a beautiful game that needs a lot of improvement to reach his full (and very high) potential.

It is heartwarming that after I bought the game I can still get the updates as well, and thankfully I dont have to pay more from version upgrades. This game is addictive. I find it even better than the Fifa 2010. Requires lower graphics, and which means many of us can play without the need to upgrade the computer. I am absolutely addicted to this game. I have been playing this game none stop since the moment I bought it.
