I'm currently working flat-out on Sensational World Cup which is why I've been a bit quiet on the forum lately, but here is some proof of my labour...

Awesome stuff Si - looking great mate! :)

So, you'll be able to play sideline view as well? Also, please, pretty please, could you make this game "tweakable" like NSS2010 etc? (It's nice being able to tweak engine settings, sounds, kits, teams etc!)
:D

Anyway, really looking forward to this one - I just got my USB adaptor aloowing me to use my Amiga joysticks etc, so I'm all set! ;)

The engine.ini will be tweakable as before. Unfortunately there won't be a sideline view in this release.

No worries Si, thanks for the answer.
I'm a Sensi fan from way back anyway, and I'm loving the graphic style you've got going so far, great work mate!

Oh, and go New Zealand in Group 6! hehehe

ooooo nice..! :clap:

I'm liking the extra depth to the retro 2D players. Can't wait. Will it be free like Sensational Soccer..?

greatings simon and everyone

looks like the new sensational soccer is great... the images look good, and looks like a new engine.ini is coming out :D

the sprites are fantastic... i like them... i wonder how can you create so good sprites. If it´s BLITZMAX style, well, the compilator is surprising me ;)

i still believe your football games could be more addicting when you create the online multiplayer mode (if you´re going to do of course) :P

it would be really nice if there will be an update for NSS3 with these fine graphics :)

Unfortunately there won't be many features in this release. I'm just concentrating on getting a solid and fun game engine completed in time for the World Cup. However, the game will be cheap. :D

This is all I can confirm at the moment...

- World Cup Campaign
- Quick Match
- Save/Load Replays

I still need to implement goalkeeping AI but so far I can safely say that this is the most fun football engine I have written. I hope you all agree!

It might be possible to make this compatible with NSS3 but I will be working on a new version of NSS after the summer, utilizing this match engine (yes, I'm ditching the 3D one) and trying to recapture the magic of NSS3.

Awesome! I loved the NSS 3 game engine, glad to see its comeback to NSS!

that´s great news :D NSS3 is a great game, and deserves an update.
If you could create online multiplayer mode, it will be fantastic :P

Looks terrific. I absolutely adore those big chunky players on the kit selection screen, proper SNES style there.

I'm also happy to hear of the return to the NSS3-style engine. Call me old-fashioned, I never found the NSS4 engine engagaing enough to really enjoy the game. I like the retro style and think that a genuinely challenging game that reflects the best aspects of football can come from it. good stuff!

Also, good to hear you've got vuvuzelas in there. It just wouldn't be the same without them.

It's a shame they may be banned from the WC though....

w00t? so what the (censored) am i going to do with the 32 i bought?
@Si:
Will we have a qualify for WC mode?(that would need more countries though...)

Vuvuzelas won't be banned. FIFA had considered it under the impression that they could be used as a weapon, but the hosts successfully (and rightly) argued that if they wanted the full South African experienced, then the vuvuzelas were a part of that.

Looks great Si, really looking forward to the release. Can you tell me whether the database be in the same format as Sensational Soccer please, just that I have been working on creating some classic teams using a spreadsheet and Hex Editor (was also thinking of making an Internationals file) and it would be a shame - for me at least - if what I have done will become out of date because everything has changed? Thanks.

Looks very promising! Nice work mate!

Although I truly believe that return to a 2D match engine is a step back, I don't feel any kind of contempt for the 2D engines. I’m also a big fan of the outlook of 2D vintage soccer games such as Kick Off or Sensible Soccer series (also the brilliant AOCS), even the pure vintage Tehkan World Cup remains with an amazing look, despite his 2D match engine was been conceived 25 years ago!
So, the appealing of each game depends mainly of the art of his designer. However, since I use to play 3D NSS2010 with a camera style similar to early 2D Sensible Soccer series view (because I love also the 2D oldschool look) in my opinion, 3D would fit all tastes…

Despite I’m being an enthusiastic of football games, I never experienced the assumed “magic” of NSS3. However, in my opinion, the NSS3 flaw has nothing to do with the fact it was released with a 2D engine (which has, in fact, an very engaging look) but essentially my concerns about NSS3 was mainly technical - poor player's AI and weird ball physics.

By the way, here are some suggestions to SWC/NSS5,

1. Keep engine.ini editable with so many options as you can provide there (e.g passing AI, sprint AI, ball physics, player physics, player size…);

2. Solid and fun gameplay (offering some degree of realism);

3. Maintain the Sensational Soccer tactical editor but make it now with 12 sectors (instead 9) and make the editing now separated by the two main moments (without ball and with ball);

4. NSS2010 passing AI system (with the necessary improvements);

5. Better and more solid player rating system.

Maybe the best bet it’s the combination of the (alleged) NSS3 “magic” with the technical advancements and the charm of NSS2010.

But there was this tribe that wanted them banned because they said that vuvuzelas were their property... anyway we're straying off-topic.

Hi Si, would be great if we could use Muzzers updates/mods - he's done some great work with some other football games, (Sensible Soccer 2006, Total Soccer etc), so would be cool if the database/team data can be used in the new Sensational Soccer!

If not, any idea how difficult it will be to "import" data from Sensational Soccer into the new World Cup 2010 edition?
:)

There is no player database yet, and it won't use the same format as the original Sensational Soccer I'm afraid. It will be easily editable csv files though.

The match engine is now precisely 98.3% complete. I just need to improve the COM AI in certain situations (headers, crosses etc) then it's just a matter of testing/tweaking. I also need to do implement a tactics editor (which is based on the NSS4 tactics system for now).

98,3 complete? wow... i thouth only was going on 50 or 60% :D

very nice :)

Awesome Si, thanks for the info, having the "database" as a csv will definitely make editing easier!

Thanks for the info Si, just pleased to know. I think I'll push on making an update even though it won't be useable for the new game. Great that you are almost done, and I have to say I'm pleased that the database will be easier this time - took a while to figure out the old one and there's still a few things I'm not sure about. Cheers
