- Saving midway through tournaments

- Mods' folder
- Every image in the game available in various files, so we could make large changes to the game visually (Mario Kart Mod *cough*cough* :D)

- Multiplayer mode, even if it's just splitscreen or LAN.

My current suggestions:

Online Multiplayer Mode:

Must have for a game like this. Some features that should be implemented in this off the start are things such as:

- Lobby based system
- Vote kick system (for 'griefers' and for AFK lobby leaders stopping a lobby from starting when there's already enough people, etc.)
- Rating system (Nothing complex, will actually write out a quick system below)

Start with 2000 points - As an example, lets have 8 players in the room with varying ratings. You come...4'th in the race. Here's how it could work out.

1'st 4000
2'nd 2000
3'rd 2500
4'th 2000 (you)
5'th 1800
6'th 3000
7'th 2800
8'th 2000

System would be
(if loss) -(Your rank/Opponent rank) x 100
(if win) +(Opponent rank/Your rank) x 100

So for this match, your rank would change like this

Losses

2000/4000 = -(0.5 x 100) = -50
2000/2000 = -(1.0 x 100) = -100
2000/2500 = -(0.8 x 100) = -80
(-230)

Wins

1800/2000 = +(1.1 x 100) = 90
3000/2000 = +(1.5 x 100) = 150
2800/2000 = +(1.4 x 100) = 140
2000/2000 = +(1.0 x 100) = 100
(480)

Total
(Wins - Losses)

480 - 230 = 250

So this persons rating would go from 2000 to 2250.

Can't really say much more about the online multiplayer bit, as I don't know much about networking unfortunately. Last thing I can say is avoid having a low limit on the rating, have a limit be somewhere around 100000.

Time Trial

Not a must have, but very good for people who like to compete for times, as it would remove the luck factor from it. Here's the things it should most likely entail

Required:
- Start with turbo, get one per lap (have it added to your item box, if they already have a turbo then don't worry about it)
- Remove AI and Items. Leave the boosts on the track as they're still part how the track is played.
- Have a separate ranking for easy, medium, and hard, as they all play differently. Either that or default to hard speed. (more options is better, however :) )
- Keep track of both total time (default it to 5, don't allow this to be changeable) and fast lap time for each track (and each difficulty if you do the easy/medium/hard split), as well as a Top 5 total times list and a best lap somewhere at the bottom.

Optional
- A ghost that shows the players previous best run. Would be pretty simple to implement as all it would be is recording the inputs from said run and storing them, then playing them back with a 'ghost' of your ship doing the run. Would allow people to see where they're losing time and improve their runs by racing the ghost.
- Show players best 'splits' in comparison to their current best time as a clickable option after a race is finished
(would require keeping track of the best lap driven on all 5 laps.)
Example:
say my current best 5lap time is 1:18.80 on Lazcon. My best laps that I've achieved on each lap however are:

Lap 1: 15.64
Lap 2: 15.49
Lap 3: 15:47
Lap 4: 15.70
Lap 5: 15.50

Adding that all up, my best possible splits would give me a time of 1:17.80, showing that I can potentially improve my current time by about a second.)

------

Well, that's all the suggestions I have for now. Going to go back to enjoying this great game :)

I am pretty sure you may have thought of this but, what if you made eliminator and survivor modes available also for tournaments. i would like that.

I thank you for the games, and i enjoy them a lot. Look forward for new ones!!!

I think an item should be added that, once activated, gives your ship temporary A.I. control. :)

I have to say Online/MultiPlayer capabilities would be very awesome to have in this game. And as GeoBlanco suggested, Tournament modes for Eliminator and Survivor.

Another one i would love to see for the editor mode is larger 3x3 curves and 90 degree turns for sharp cornered tracks.

being my first post i just wanted to say that this is a good ol' fashioned old school game, all about gameplay and fun...and its amazing, something most games are missing nowadays.

Have to agree with other posters, this game is just crying out for some sort of multiplayer, any sort. Othe than that...its honestly perfect.

First post as well, and my suggestions are...

- Online multiplayer, please!
Seriously, this game would be so much fun multiplayer!
As for this one, I'd say some people might probably want to use the same ship... to make them different they should be able to get custom colors or a bunch of preselected colors for each player, as in, ship color, weapon color... etc.

- New features in the track editor.
Like... bridges and floor levels... different width track tiles...? just to add some variety to the tracks... otherwise they all end up being similar... there are very few!
Maybe the chance of adding new custom track tiles which are saved with the track files?

- Arena mode!
Instead of racing, an special track type which turns the game into a destruction derby arena, would give a lot of variety to the gameplay.

Those are all I can think of right now... I'll post new ones if I can think of them. Nice game by the way... and also kudos to the music composers of the game, I love the music in the game, they totally fit it.

As everyone else has said, online multiplayer is a must for this sort of game.

Also, it appears that you can play around with the engine.ini file. When submitting your lap times to the leaderboard, I think the ini should be checked to make sure it hasn't been tampered with, or at least critical parts of it, as someone could just make the game easier and get faster lap times.

Got the game on steam yesterday, achievements seem to work great. Running it on xp 64 with no problems.

Dunno if this game is still being updated but it occurred to me that if you already have an online leaderboard, why not have an online user track repository with ratings and downloads on the same server. This game could be given legs by facilitating the sharing of tracks.

Also, as far as multiplayer goes, I'd be happy with just a split-screen 2player "offline" mode. My son loves this game too but we can't play it together. Split-screen should be side by side rather than top/bottom I think.

From another thread-

Online leaderboards for lap times and such might be interesting though, I've always thought this game needed some more depth to what is already here, like more track tiles in the editor, a smarter AI (I find it hard to stop them committing suicide when making a custom track) and maybe even a sort of level or advancement mechanic to the single player other than unlocking more ships (maybe even custom ships!?). Although allot of this would make it a completely different game, it will still probably have us playing longer than an online mode.

You can change the ship graphics yourself, but maybe we could change stats and have them more incremental (0.1-5.0 rather than 1-5).

Perhaps a new set of cars?
(Which would allow for the ability to add in more )
I've done the math, the average "Stat Distribution" is 14-15, so having 15 "Stats" to appoint to a car would be a nice addition to the game.
