Nooooooooooooooo! Now the game is easy again. =[
The gameplay of the version 1.04 was kinda weird, but at least it was much more difficult. It was quite impossible to do winners against Federer. Now it's the same as 1.03 version, and I still can beat Federer with any player of the game.

Si, you should make a separate game for Darknnez, because he's clearly the best player out there, i think the rest of us will find this version quite enjoyable :D
oh and one observation:
the cpu should position himself better when receiving services, sometimes he's too far out and the middle is completely open

Assuming that you are being ironic here, I'd like to say that I do find this version, and all the other ones, quite enjoyable. I really enjoyed the game. I've played almost every tennis game out there, and NST is by far the best. It's probably not the most realistic, but is the most fun.
It's not like I'm saying this thing about the game being easy just because I want to look better than you. It's because I really want it to be perfect. And for me, the way it is now, it's just not challenging. What's the point to play a game that you always win?
And for the record, I'm not "clearly the best player out there". Two of my friends also finds the game as easy as I do, and they're not buying the game because of that. The difference between me and my friends is that I'm going to buy the game anyway, being it easy or not, because I love NSG games, and I loved NST.
And finally, I want to say that I'm not beggin'. If everyone thinks the game is fine the way it is, and thinks the game isn't easy as I think, than Si have no reason to change the game just because of me. I'm just giving my opinion here, no one is obliged to agree with it.

Hi
I was just now playing version 1.03, I still had not realised it is now already 1.05!
I wanted to report a few bugs that I found, which are not critical to gameplay:
- When I win a tournament, the game shows a message that I won the number of points corresponding to 2nd place, for example in GS, the message says I won 1200 points, in Masters 1000, that I won 600 points. The counting in the rankings table is still correct except (see next):
- I won two Masters 1000 tournaments and each gave me 2000 points instead of 1000! That made me number 1 too early!
- Sometimes, at the beggining of training challenges or games, the serve mark is fixed in nonsense places. I think you already took care of that from what I read.
Outside bugs, I have a question: How do I smash? I never have the chance of doing it, but I already saw my opponents do it or try it everytime I lob!

I'm getting aces now! Although more against than for!
I wouldn't say this version is super easy. I like the topspin shot now. I can hit nice winners with it but I can hit it wide if I get too greedy. I think the normal shot button is a little too easy. I find it nearly impossible to hit a normal shot wide from the baseline. This would be fine as a safety shot but I get quite a few winners with it too so it seems a little easy.
Could a drop shot be added? I think some games use the lob button for drop shots when you move the target near the net.
Could you display the stats window between sets?
It would also be nice to have an announcer for the scores.
Is it just me or do the players look like Federer?!

Darknez, can you try adjusting a few settings in Program Files/New Star Soccer/Settings/Engine.ini and tell me if that improves the difficulty level...
gamespeed=0.8 (Makes the game faster but no more difficult for the COM AI)
playermaxerror=300 (Increases the range of your aiming cursor)
swingwidth=185 (Increases the collision detection of the racquet. Helps COM hit spin shots)
commaxerror=0 (Reduces the errors the COM will make)
Try those settings, or play around with them. :)

lol @ commaxerror = 0
that should keep him happy :P

Heh. Yeah, but they will still make a few errors. That setting only applies to normal shots. Slices and top-spin shots can still go out. :)

Very solid gameplay and the translation is now up to date :)

I have a suggestion, related to the bugs I related before. It would be nice to see a breakdown of the ranking points. In order words, in which tournaments did the player score and how much. Kinda similar to the rankings breakdown on the ATP web site.
Example: http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/Top-Players/Roger-Federer.aspx?t=rb

My first try, playing with Del Potro:

As you can see, wasn't difficult at all. =p
I'll try again later, playing with a much more weaker player.
Thanks, Si. =D

Simon, love the game. Any chance of getting the womens tour somehow in the game? or will that be for the next one?

Now, playing with Baghdatis, I just had a hard match. Much more difficult now. =D
It shouldn't be easy to beat Federer, even playing with Nadal. So I still think the game could be harder (knowing that I beat Federer playing with Del Potro, with a score of 6x0, as you can see on my last post). But anyway, it's already a good improvement.
Thanks, Si.
Edit: just bought it! xD
Can't wait to start my career.
Si, could you widen the window that appears after the game? Polish words "lay" on each other... (a nice mess out there)
I'd like to remidn my suggestion - a strip on the top of the net would be better if it was thinner. Like in the attachment :)
PS: Those concrete walls behind players' backs look bloodily cold. A bit of colour would make them more "vivid" :)
Check the picture.

This may be a bit pedantic but when it's the final of a tournament, can there be 'championship point' instead of 'match point'? And can there be 'Game, set, match and championship', too?

I haven't played the game since version 0.95, so I gotta say it has improved a lot.
Btw, can anyone explain the differences of the shots?
And, do I get any skill points after matches?
Oh, and I really feel the need for hotkeys. Like Space key for continue or something like that. It's tiring to keep using to mouse button to do the same things all over again. That's especially at the start when I do a lot of training.
LE. Some more sounds would be nice, and crowds. :) It's kinda dull when you're playing in a match, feels like training with no crowd or special sounds. ;)
Other than that, it's great! Good job SI :)

And btw, can anyone explain the differences of the shots?
normal shot = a normal flat shot with little or no spin.
slice shot = putting backspin on the ball which makes it drift. allows you to get back into a point.
top spin = putting top spin on the ball to make the ball dip. allows you to hit the ball harder without hitting it out past the baseline (if done well ;) )
lob = playing the ball over a players head when they have come to the net

I am playing best out of 3 sets. And in the last set we had a break. Is that normal? Cause I thought in the last set they keep playing until someone gets 2 points ahead. :P

Hi Si,
Really enjoy the game, but I do have a suggestion on the playability.
When I started, quickly decided that the most efficient way to become competitive quickly would be to work on my serve. No matter how slow or useless my guy was, if I had a decent serve, I'd be able to win a few points. So, I trained up my serve stat until it was full.
I then got to work on speed and stamina, and once they were full I started working on the other four stats kinda evenly.
Unfortunately, this method has basically worked too well.
Even on hard, with full serve stats, no one can touch my serves (well, I've not played the top 3, but I just beat Roddick, who is 4th so pretty sure no one).
The thing is, that up until recently, I was actually too rubbish to win any points of other people's serves. So each set would go to a tie break - me winning all my games off aces, and the computer winning all their games by actually being half decent at tennis. I even won a few minor tournaments without ever breaking serve - just going to a tie break and then eventually winning a point against serve and then serving aces all the way to victory!
To this day, I have never ever lost a game on serve, and now that I'm half decent and can compete - as soon as I break serve the set is mine.
The reason I can do this is not just that my serve is very powerful, but because I can put it right in the corner probably 8 out of 10 times.. and when you do that the computer just simply can't get it, and 8 out of 10 is more than enough to hold serve every time.
So - as a solution, and I don't think it would be that hard to code (but I'm not a programmer, so I don't actually know) would be simply to make the target circle increase in size as the power of the serve cranks up - so you can't just do full power right into the corner (with spin) every time. If you want to try full power and aim in the corner, you have to take the risk of faulting - and if you want to keep it nice and safe (and not double fault) you have to take a bit of pace off, or aim more central.
It is kinda taking the fun out of it, I CAN put the serves so the computer can hit them - but if I'm losing, then it's hard not to just ace them to pieces!
This is far from a criticism, as I reallly enjoy the game. Just think this would make something that is already really good - even better!
