I've am experimenting with an online database so that everyone that wants to help with updating can do so from their internet browser. The benefits of this are enourmous as it means we are all working with the same data and any changes you make are immediately visible to the other editors.

At the moment this is still at a testing stage so feel free to have a play around but don't do any serious editing as any work you do now WILL BE LOST. For one thing the special characters are messed up so I will be deleting this database soon and creating a fresh one.

For now the editor will only allow you to change certain fields such a players club (for transfers) or a clubs division (for promoting/relegation). You cannot create or delete players or clubs.

I will definitely be making everything private before (if) it goes live so only registered editors will be given access but for now have a play and let me know what you think. If you have any questions just ask. :)

Clubs and players can be edited with the little edit button on the left-hand side.
You can filter players by club if you know the club id. On the player screen click search then put the club id in the ClubID column and press enter.

Looks very nice Si, but the first issue (and that you mentioned) that I noticed was the lack of é's and stuff looking at the Arsenal squad  As far as I can see there's no player data changing included now?

I like it. Kinda... Slow for serious work, but excellent for bits of it.

Just a small suggestion, I think it'd be better to do backups of the database to a folder in the server whenever any work is saved so that no people with bad intentions destroy our hard work.

Nice idea Si, but some people would try to make invincible teams in minor leagues, i.e., transfer all good players in the league to a single club

I think the data would be revised in the end. The NSS4 db was revised in the end.

i think we'll need a lot more to cover the whole world ;)

I'll do Argentina. No problem. I know how I'll do it with this system.

I'll go team by team, checking player by player.

- If a player missing in my team exists in another team, I'll change the data accordingly.
- If said player doesn't exist in the db, I'll create him (if possible).
- The remaining players (those existing in the team in the current db, that no longer play for the team) will be either transferred to their corresponding team or deleted (if possible) in the case they've retired or sent to a team that hasn't been fully created yet.

First I gather the info of a whole team, then I do the changes.

transfermarkt.de (something we used when editing the original NSS4 db) is very useful for info ;)

edit: will we be able to change and/or make new competitions? Just noticed the Portuguese League Cup (Taça da Liga) is not included..

I agree but I doubt anyone would mess it up but its better to be safe than sorry :)

Awesome job, Si! It will certainly help a lot with the future databases and any updates.

Ok, I'm still ironing out a few issues but hopefully I have it up and running this week.

Dudes, I was thinking that in order to keep the database balanced all players should have their abilities auto-assigned based on World Status (a value we could be able to edit, anyways).

The distribution of abilities should be based on the position they play in.

That's old news, but here's the kicker:

In order to make players more diverse (and not ending up with a bunch of strangely Drogbas that are faster than stronger), we could be able to pick from a bunch of madlib-like drop down menus that "define" the player.

For instance... Is the player fast, strong, resistant or well rounded? We can tell the Owens apart from the Berbatovs and the Crouches. The Tottis from the Tonis.

Is he offensive, defensive (regardless of position) or "average"? We can separate the Xavis from the Xabi Alonsos from the Makeleles. The Roberto Carlos from the Del Hornos. The Ferdinands from the Vidices.

We could also say if the player has a physical, tactical or skillful approach to the game. Ronaldinho, Gerrard and Lampard are worlds apart for being all the playmakers.

All this choices will affect the distribution of abilities (of an average set by -but not equal to- World Status).

We have a total of 16 abilities, so let's say that each percent of World Status (WS) means 13 ability points. That means that if we give the guy a WS of 100, he'd average 81,25 points per ability.

Now we'll start auto-distributing the points. The first filter is the Primary Position. Then we could start applying these drop downs I suggest, in the following order:

- Approach to the game (Physical, Tactical, Skillful)
- Then his offensive/defensive balance (offensive, defensive, moderated)
- Finally his physical characteristics (Fast, Strong, Resistant, Well-Rounded)

I still have to break this down and I don't have the time right now, but I'll edit this later if the idea seems usable.

This is a great idea lulospawn but I cant see this happening in NSS2010, more on the lines of NSS5 if it is to happen I think.

given that it hasnt been talked about in a couple of months, i highly doubt it in NSS2010... but u never know, it could be incorporated in NSS5

I think it's pointless to make it ready now, I think it's better to wait for the end of the transfer window (which this season will not happen on the 31st of January, it will happen on the 1st of February because the first date is a Sunday)

Portugal's going mad on the market though, I've never seen the Big Three this active. I think you'd know that because Benfica got 3 players from Brazil and Porto got 1. /offtopic

No posts since the 30th of January, transfers deadline close the 31th? I wonder what happened?

Anyway, I'm new here and already addicted to the New Star Games, especially NSS10. I brought all the mac games that where available, pure fun!

If anyone needs help, I can help out with the Belgian leagues. I'm also a game developer. I've made www.acemasters.org, an online game. I program in PHP, so I could even help out with this online database. It's a great idea to have a selected group help out with the data.

The only thing I would like to see improved in the game, is the database. A lot of inaccurate players and managers data (my favorite team, Anderlecht has a new manager since two years but in-game it's still the old one, who's now manager at Genk). I understand there are licensing issues but why not have some kind of 'unfake' patch available to download on a 3rd party site (just like FM does)?

Somewhere in the forum you'll find it, check nss2010 sub forums

have a search around here (http://www.nssworld.smfnew.com/). the site has been spammed, so watch out for that, but all the graphics and database downloads are safe.
