I was thinking... Why don't we create a Mario Kart Mod? That would be great. Changing the track tiles, creating new sprites, new tournaments, new weapons... Super Laser Racer has all aspects a Mario Kart Mod would need... So, what about it?

Fantastic idea! It would have to be unofficial so I'll stay hands off, but I would love to see it. :)

Looking forward to it... If we could have a 'Mods' folder in Super Laser Racer's folder in My Documents, just like NSGP, that'd make things easier. Also changing the looks of the game, make it look more like NSGP, change the ground tiles, walls, etc. I poked around at the game directory, but all I can change are the track tiles, the four objects and the ships sprites... Maybe changing the background songs, replace them with a Mario theme song, perhaps... That'd be awesome. But all of that would take loads of work, is anybody willing to help me?
I'm having some ideas... What if we swap the mines with a banana peel? We sometimes could have only one, sometimes three, just like in SLR...

Rainbow road would probably be the best place to start with this one...we already have the background and it would be a case of merely editing the ship sprites and the weapons effects etc.
We'd need Si to open up all the editing options, something i've been trying to make him do for NSGP *nudge, nudge*, but otherwise we should be good to go!
Oh, and i'm taking back some of the credit for this idea :P

I don't have this game but a few weeks ago I thought that a Micro Machines mod would be awesome lol but I look foward to seeing the results of this ;)

I want this! I enjoyed playing Mario Kart a lot on my GBA but the screen went kaput (I dropped it :doh:)

I have done the weapons and the DB.
Includes:
-Object Box (02_Weapon)
-Fake Object Box (Bomb)
-Green Shell (Laser)
-3 Green Shells (3 Lasers)
-Banana Peel (Mine)
-Red Shell (Missile)
-Mushroom (Turbo)
-Star (WeaponShield)
-DB with 12 characters
Much more to add yet, but still, tell me what you guys think of what I've done so far. From what's possible to mod, only the sprites left. Can anybody do this for me, please, I'm not good at all at creating sprites...
EDIT: Forgot to mention the engine.ini file to do. Will be doing that soon.

Looking nice, though the controls don't look quite as the ones in Mario Kart... I want that custom Engine.ini now :P

CM, how do you think the driving characteristics should be? More or less handling, acceleration, top speed and drift, what do you think each one should be? I've arranged it like that: A bit more handling, a bit less acceleration, less top speed and a bit more drift. What do you think about the way I arranged it?

Si, is there anyway to have like, two types of mines? As the fake item box was replaced by the bomb, it explodes without anybody touching them. Is it possible to make the bomb an exact copy of the mine?

Try making the fake items into Bob-ombs, thats my advice.
seeing that these are PNG files, would it be possible to animate the boosters?

Unfortunately no, as the animated PNG format you're refering to is a special PNG format that is only readable by certain apps like Firefox. (for example, in Chrome it's just a static image)

Sure! Your work will be very welcome. :)
But I think the MOD won't be going much further than this...
I really wished we could change the background, since Mario Kart's tracks mostly have grass or dirt backgrounds...

A mario mod would be kinda cliche... But, downloading a rom of the old N64 Mario kart and ripping the sounds for it sounds kinds tempting...

No they don't man, they're great, thanks! Really liked Yoshi's and Toad's karts. :D
I'm going to add (and credit, of course) your creation after the 1.2 update. I'm intending to add something to the mod with the new features.

You really think so? Thanks! Now I wonder if Si will add more cars to the 1.2 update to go with the new Tournaments... :P

Why not just change the stars to a supermassive grassy texture?
