Cant choose Ships -> unable to play

Hi there,

I just bought the game, but I cannot play, just watch how the pc plays for me :doh:

If I start any game mode, I can choose a track, but the ship selection menu is empty. If you start the race, the pc plays for you...

Not that much fun actually :wall:

Update: The game does not seem to remember settings like volume etc.

Sounds like something is blocking access to the database. Can you see the LR.db file in My Documents/Super Laser Racer/Database?

yes, there is the folder and some subfolders.

Okey dokey.. you say you've got the only account on the PC, but there will always be an admin one hidden away, so are you sure your account has fully access settings? Yes I hear you say...

Have you tried the 'right click > run as' approach with the desktop icon for NSS4? Don't be silly, course you have..

Last shot from me, try start > run > regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Licences. Right click on Licences and go to Permissions. Make sure 'everyone' has full control checked and if you really want, add yourself too just to be 100% sure :lol: (type your Windows Logon name and press check).

the license stuff seems to be correct. My win xp is german too, like that of the guy in the other forum.

update: is it a problem that the path to SLR Folder in My Documents contains an "umlaut" (ü)?

Open C:\Program Files\Super Laser Racer\Settings\Engine.ini in notepad.

Change saveloc=0 to saveloc=C:\Super Laser Racer\

After that you can delete the folder in My Documents. The one in C:/ will be used for saves and stuff.

Hi!

I had the same problem on the demo.
Moving from "My Documents" to "Public Documents" the "Super Laser Racer" folder and doing the Engine.ini change (first line set to: saveloc=C:\Users\Public\Documents\Super Laser Racer\) fixed it. :)
I also gave access on the registry first but this was not enough.

My point is: my document folder is "C:\Users\François\Documents" (yes I'm François).
So it's also a special character (the ç, like the ü from the LaserMan).

Maybe there is a problem in the way those characters are handled by the program?

There was a guy in the Steam SLR forum that had the same problem and he had an ä in the path to his My Documents folder.

Hi !

Same problem here, in Super Laser Racer v1.12 just bought on Steam.
I have changed the saveloc value in engine.ini, and now it works correctly.

FYI, there is an ï in the path to my "My Documents" folder. Definitely seems to be a problem with those special characters.
