This game... frustrates me SO much. :x

I mean, it looks great and plays great, but the match engine is baaaaaaaaaaad. I knew that it was based on SS, which my brother got ages ago (and it was terrible) but this game's impossible. Even if I go to Chester City or another low club, I can't do well.

First of all, I barely get the ball. This causes me to run around and ask for the ball, and whilst I do this, my performance drops to 1. What the hell?!

Secondly, if I DO get passed the ball on a rare occasion, it's miles ahead of me, so I can't get it.

Thirdly, when I pass the ball, the AI fails to control it (instead it decides to run in circles), and my performance drops again. Damn.

Finally, the worst thing about the match engine is simply the gameplay. That's not football. You don't see players slide tacking, throwing each other over and generally being that rough in real games. If I get the ball, guess what? I don't have it any more, because I've been shoved over or the AI has magically controlled it off me. How am I supposed to score if every time I get the ball, I lose it before I press a button?

If you don't have a joystick, the match engine really does bite.

It seems you just did not played Sensible Soccer enough.

I played with Southport in the conference and i score every match.

Just keep trying.

first up keyboard is fine, i find it easier than a joypad, but I guess that is me.

Now remember you dont come into the game the best player in the world, you got to train, as in NSS2 I would recommend spending most of training on stamina this will help you recover quickier, ie. my first game was not till Feb of the following year, train hard first, if you cam into the game as the best player in the world making the best passes and getting the best goals the game would have little self life to it.

your right scoring is hard but that doesn't make the game bad, the match engine is very good and the game still has that NSS feel from 1 and 2. I've not even scored in a match game yet but it hasn't dented my love for the game. =D>

You're right, Jay-Jay, I just got so frustrated simply having to buy alcohol every two minutes...

Still, somehow I kept falling over in my last game, making me annoyed and wondering if it was a bug or not.

The only thing is that although I want to train, there's not much chance of me getting a registration key. Ah well.

Hmmmm are you one of the people brought by my rallying call on Devachat? Actually i'm doubting that...

if you were a chester fan you'd remember our time in the conference and under Ian Rush

You start off with limited stats, and you need to train in the areas you feel is needed most. Use the time when Si Says "Dont forget to do extra training" to actually do some. Particually concentrate on your pace if the balls being played too far infront of you...

Also, be sure you're playing in Amateur mode. Pro is very, very difficult for first-time players. I was hopeless at it. Amateur gives you a boost in your attributes to enable you to do a lot more. Once you get to grips with the game and perhaps get a bit bored being the best player on every team, you can go for Pro where you've got to work hard.

I don't listen to the radio. :P

Yeah, I'll do training, but I just wanted to get the most out of it before it asked for a code.

train up strengh mate, this will help you shield the ball and you won't fall over as much.

I dont have the same problem.
My problem is that I cant get higher than 17 in shooting. In training it is almost impossible to get a good ball, and when I get it the shoot is always not hard enough or it is and goes just wide. I think I have done this training seven times (that is 140 balls) now and made ONE goal. So does anyone has any good tips on how to make these volley goals?

Stand still. Press Call. Hold shoot as soon as the coach kicks it.

ohh, ok...
Another training question:
Why cant I train in the offseason? I want to be the best, so I want to train :P

lol Si got to the answer before me! I also find if your standing slightly to the left or right of the penilty spot directing the ball into the opposite direction helps greatly (but placing your volleys requires Flair)

You know as an old time gamer like Si, I played just about every version of Sensible Soccer since version 1 and NSS3 has a better engine that it. Maybe a few less animations but a better engine none the less.

When I played Sensible Soccer --- ooo 12-15 years ago I found it incredible difficult to play when I first started. Especially so to score. I was terrible. But like all things I improved.

No different in EA's FIFA... practice makes perfect.

MY PERSONAL HINTS:
One of the best things I learnt on amateur was to pile all my points on Pace and leave Stamina and Strength blank as an attacker. Now I am racing around and getting the ball fairly frequently.

Then I push most of my training on Ball Control and Dribbling so I can run fast with the ball too and it is sticking to my feet like glue. Then I work on shooting. By the time these are getting high I was literally running around defenders in the Conference and they couldn't even touch me. It was literally humurous like a Benny Hill sketch.

Almost every time I would then get the ball --at that point-- the only person I had any concern to beat was the keeper. And if you shoot straight near the goalposts you will notice this is a very weak spot for the NSS keepers to defend.

Regarding the poor passes from your team...if you increase your vision and positioning I believe this actually raises your team mates abilities to pass accurately to you.

    I hate to be pesimistic so soon after release but does anybody else find it really annoying how the screen continually changes from windowed to full screen and vice-versa??? #-o

Hey Si,

I have my shooting bar up two thirds of the way for my skills.

Yet most of the time I am still hitting the ball wide? On amateur too.

Perhaps shooting skill should affect more of how well you can curl a ball or get it through the keepers hands rather than hitting it way too wide.Or minimalize the wide shots... they are getting annoying.

steventitch

you need to add points in flair for better curl. i have maxed shooting and flair and i'm having no problems with free-kicks and my set pieces only has 2 points in it.

My flalr is about 50% and my shooting 66%... im playing in the conference and hitting wide fairly often still when running at a goal and shooting.

hitting th ball wide could also have something to do with hitting the ball if your worse foot, whats your both feet skill?

I love this game cause it's just like what you waiting for a 17-years-old player, I play in Icelandic 1st division and the manager asked me if he can put me on the transferlist, heh, in my first season, I got 2 red cards :o , but still I'm the top scorer of my team :P
