So there I was, tired after another trial for local team Infesta where I tanked like Ronaldo will tank at Real Madrid (in other words, A LOT!), and as I was getting ready to shower, bam, my PC's speakers start yelling out "YOU HAVE EMAIL! YOU HAVE EMAIL MAN, YOU HAVE EMAIL, READ IT NOW, YOU HAVE EMAIL! DAMN IT READ YOUR EMAIL OR I'LL FORMAT MYSELF! DO YOU WANT THAT, DO YOU? DO YOU?!"
I was obviously scared (yep, still not used to that custom sound...), but instead of reading my email immediately, I showered. And that was my first mistake. After my 1 hour shower because of all the problems with the water heater and lack of shampoo making me rush to the local store in my dirty sweater, with my half-washed hair and everybody pointing at me and laughing, I decided to finally read my email.

From: Infesta Board of Directors <randomemail@randomdomain.com>
To: Rui Jorge <...@...>
Subject: You were accepted

Message:

"Congratulations Rui Jorge! After a long meeting with the club staff, the Director of Football, the manager and the president, we have decided to include you in our Infesta B team! To accept this marvelous chance, you just got to go to our trial center and sign a few papers... burocracies eh..." (etc etc)

What did I do? I grabbed the first clothes I found and rushed to the trial center. And again, everybody was pointing and laughing at me because I picked up my dirty sweater again and I hadn't even combed my hair.

When I got there though, I was told the exact opposite of what the email stated. Or almost the exact opposite.

Guy who told me the bad news: We sent the same email to twenty other people and only the first ten to get here were accepted... sorry.
Me: <shrugs> That's life eh... ah well, better chances will come I'm sure.

But they didn't. Sure, other chances came, but they weren't better... (scratch that, they weren't good, they weren't bad, they weren't awful, they were worse than that...) And after this, I read the rest of the email closely and what the guy said was written there. And not reading the whole email was my second mistake. And it turns out it wasn't the opposite.

I came back to my apartement where I lived with my parents and was googling crap clubs or clubs that really were worse than that or clubs that just needed new players, and was shocked I could only find Iceland clubs*. Well, I was rich, so I asked my parents for some money, went to Iceland and bought myself a small apartement, and before I realized, I was already trying out for Vikingur Olafsvik. I hadn't realized that this was the start of something new either.

*I am a very distracted little fella and I hadn't realized I had set Google to only find me Iceland websites in the Advanced Options. What a pity. And that was my third mistake. Never fear though, there'll be a lot more mistakes. Like JJU said:

I got myself installed in a Marriott hotel two weeks before the league started, and 5 days later, I had already made several friendships with the local salesmen and saleswomen and I was already trusted by them in the "meh, it's just an euro, you don't have to pay me..." or "you don't have money now? you can pay later..." ways! However, my social skills really weren't that developed, as one day later I got dumped by a girl I saw in the supermarket... meh, it's just like I said before: there will be a lot more chances. And this time, I know there will :)

The first league match came to me faster than I would have ever realized, and it was a hard-fought duel against Haukar, which we won 2-1, with one of the goals scored by me and the other one by Jóanssen, who assisted me in the first goal. There were a lot of defensive and attacking blunders from both sides, especially from me (it took me 20 shots to finally score) and from our goalkeeper too, who decided the goal would save itself and started wandering around the corner flags very calmly... and to reward him after such an embarrassing performance, I filled his shoes with shampoo and drew some weird pictures in his kit. He was extremely mad once he opened his locker, and later he thought that Oddson had pranked him, which led to a fight in the dressing room, that was later stopped by our manager. That is not good for the team's harmony. And there you have it, my fourth mistake!

The second league match was a lot worse for us because our team had divided itself into a group that defended Oddson (with me included) and another one who hated him. We sucked miserably in the first half, having suffered 2 goals in what was a very impressive quickfire double from Fram and having missed a penalty. The second half was even worse since I did what I thought was right to fix things: I told everybody that the prank was played by me, which led to a massive punchup in the dressing room, this time causing even more groups to form amongst us. The positive thing about this was that most midfielders and all strikers agreed in defending me, which led to 2 goals, both scored by me, but it also led to the defenders not doing their job (and by not doing their job I mean sitting down in the middle of the pitch insulting me) and it led to another two goals being scored by Fram. This was even worse than what happened the previous week.

The week after, despite the issues having become a lot less noticeable and despite friendships forming again amongst the roster, we lost 0-1 to Fjölnir, which finally led to Gunnarson being fired. Finally our keeper was gone. Yay. The bad part was that we had no keeper now and free agents are free cos they suck. Which was BAD.
